I was just trying to run GL 1.41 and got the "429 errors" and the message that I can download the updated database file from TTLG.
I used the "search" function to try and find it, but had no lucky, can anyone point me to the correct link ?
I only have Access 2000 (not 2003) so I cannot follow Potterr's instructions to fix the error myself. I just downloaded the MDAC 2.8 as well, seemed to make no difference

Which install did you do? This normaly only occurs if you have installed the upgrade installer without having GL in the first place or to a different location to the original GL install.
Version 1.41s exe will make all the changes to your existing database that it needs to. The message is left over from version 1.01 when the database file was not structured to allow GL to update the databases structure.

I chose "option 1" from your official site - as I no longer had GL 1.2x installed.
Did I download the wrong option ?

That's the right one, its the one I have been testing on some virtual machines with (Windows 2K,Xp and Vista) so the database file is ok (not my database file like last time).
Ok so I am guessing that you are on windows XP, quite possibly service pack 2?
If so its possible XP is preventing GL from accessing its database.
The first thing you can try is to edit GLs shortcut and add " /debug" to the end of its target string (without speechmarks but with the space). GL will then startup in debug mode with its debug console asking you to continue every so often. What should happen is that GL will tell you an error number and description in the debug console just before it gets the normal visible error. Could you let me know what it is?
Also for info, the error is occuring at GLs first attempt to read its database in a protected table. You should be able to edit the properties as per the instructions GL gives you using Access 2000, they may differ slightly though.

I am using Windows ME if that makes a difference ?
I did try using Access 2000, but could not find the correct table to edit listed in the error message, so I did not change anything.
When you said it might be the wrong version, I uninstalled it, so the debug file has gone. Sorry.

I nistalled it again and ran it. Still same "429" ActiveX error.
The debug file says:-
141
2

Have a look through the 429 errors (
http://ttlg.com/wiki/index.php?title=GarrettLoaderIssues) HERE. I think solution 2 may be the best here as solution 3 GL will try on first startup anyway. If not I will be available tommorrow evening to do a netmeeting to try and resolve this. I haven't had much hands on with windows ME though.

Thanks. I installed Script 5.6 as suggested (though I instaleld the version for ME, not the XP version that the link pointed to).
Uninstalled GL, re-installed it. Same error message "429" - the debug file still says:-
141
2
I don't know what a Netmeeting is ? But if it involves me, then I can't make it because I work from 1800 - 0000 GMT (today is my one day off)
Thanks for all your help though.

I'll see what I can do, however one question is, if you had GL before, did it error in the same way or is it just new to version 1.41 (shouldn't be as nothing has changed there)?

Two years on - same error, same problem. Was it never resolved ??
