Myself, I went for the New Dark Age inspired by Tracer Tong's rather cute vision of everyone living in peace and harmony. However, as the ending scene played and Tong started ranting about living in little huts and all that stuff I had a sudden thought: "The guy is clearly insane, I have just carried out the orders of an insane man! God help us all!". Well, that's my story, what about you?

I went for merging with Helios. Sounded like the one that would benefit the most people.

Merged. Though while I was doing it I was very tempted by Tong's offer.

I chose the Dark Age ending.

Helios is my choice for the least of three evils.... Ironically, While Tracer's is the choice I like least, Tracer is also the NPC I thought was the most moral - up to the point of his Dark Age fantasy. 8)
There was a great thread earlier on one of the Deus Ex fora about "which ending was the best"; people had good arguments in favor of all three endings. IMO, one of the greatest things about the game is that it brings the player, in the end, to a very finely balanced moral dilemma, ensuring all three options have pros and cons - then leaves the player to decide.

I cheated and just reloaded three times to see every ending. What can I say, I'm lazy. However the first one I checked out was the Helios ending. It certainly fit w/the whole "Deus Ex Machina" theme in that J.C. said to the world "fuck off, I'm fixing this mess myself."
I thought the most benevolent ending was the Illuminati one because they just didn't come off as that bad an organization. Not really sinister, just kinda secretive.
Now I'm reading The Illuminatus Trilogy and the Illuminati in this book are (so far) a great deal more imposing then in the game.

I cheated and watched all four. In this order: Helios, Tong, Illuminati. Ironically, I liked the Illuminati the best.

Seeing how there were bound to be multiple endings, I also took the easy way out and saved the game before committing myself to any of the three tasks.
I thought the Dark Age sounded best, closely followed by Illumination (having read the Illuminatus Trilogy, this sounded pretty good). I did not like the idea of merging with Helios one bit, but as it turned out, this was the first of the endings I got to see (it was just so much easier than the others). As I´d expected, I didn´t like that outcome (although JC/Helios did make the "It is the dawning of a new day" sound pretty damn impressive).
Next, I tried the Dark Age and found it to be bleaker than expected. Certainly no rural Utopia anytime soon.
Illumination suited me just fine, although I think JC might turn out to be not all that perfect for the hands-off role the Illuminati intended for him. But still, this is the ending that offerered the most hope for humanity in general, I think.
Damn, what a fine game....
