But you see, with the others there, Everrett wouldnt have the opportunity. Would you have prefered Helios ruling the world? Evidently, someone has to rule the world at the end of Deus Ex, hence the possibilty for a sequel. Even in the anarchist ending, leaders would emerge and the patterns of the 20th century would repeat themselves.

Maybe, maybe not - remember, Page started out within the Illuminati and look how far he got subverting their networks to his own ends.
I agree about the somebody having to rule - which is why I chose Helios :) - my reasons lie somewhat farther back in the thread, but basically I think the human solutions are doomed and Helios is the best chance for long-term human species survival.

None of them are exactly peachy-keen in my view.
Aside from what's already been stated about the Illuminati ending there's the symbolism of it. The ending in-game movie there is the opener with different characters. You stand where Simons stood, Everett stands where Page stood, you discuss many of the same things. Everett walks all over JC just as surely as Page was over Simons. Not promising given Everett's well proven duplicity, IMHO... :)

Hmm. I can see what your saying. Ideally I take a communist approch. But then there is no such ending. Helios cant be trusted. Neither, really can everett.but at least you can kill him if needs be. destroying technology is unnecessary, in so far as human society doesnt need to suffer.

Yes no one can be trusted, that's why the best ending is the "Dark Ages" :p
Sometimes you just have to destroy it all to start again and try to make it right. With the Illuminati or Helios in power, the infrastructure for absolute dictatorship is still there and nothing is really accomplished.
I wonder if they're going to use the same kind of plotline in DX2. If they do they will have to create new conspirators, or a different global objective. Fighting the Illuminati again would really suck. Why not aliens this time? You find out that the Illuminati were actually the aliens' pawns in their quest for planetary conquests. Heh, too X-Files.

Personally I hope that the sequel follows up on Tracer Tong's ending. I liked him the most and I think it would be really cool if JC had to try to find him and Paul through the ruins and riots and anarchy created by a complete breakdown in society. In addition, nothing would beat sniping and sneaking one's way through wild areas inhabited by deer, elk, cougars, greasels and karkians, remnant rogue mj12 bots still operating in the forest, and tribes of wandering humans. And amidst it all, pockets of still technologically advanced societies still exist. It would make for a great sequel.

Personally, if I were making Deus Ex 2, I would go with the Tracer Tong ending. Except that you don't play as JC - You play as Alex Denton (one of the "new" agents being created in the lab. He was in one of the glass tanks). The reactors are overloading, your tank shatters, and you (still naked) fight your way out of Area 51. JC dies in the resulting explosion.

And what happens to Helios, I wonder?
Like Shodan Helios could replicate itself into other machines? Even IF world did go into dark age, and IF JC did crippled/destoyed Helios
I assume that Helios was that wise, that it did backup itself into somewhere where it could someday come out.
"Save the base, JC, let's use the tech...", could it be possible did JC would step of the arena and let other factions into each other throath. There is no real moral ending in this game. No matter what Player did whit his/her PC, even what is JC to be a god. There wasn't any "real" threat what JC could not solve. There was possibility to cripple each of these "evil" faction so that there is no danger to human kind. After all this there is still question what if..?
From my point of view. I would cripple each faction so that I would have time to consire each of possibilites, after all there is no ture moral ending in this life or anyone other life! Who we are to say what is true moral end in this life?

To destroy it all and to rebuild the same mistakes? Unless my beloved communists are envolved, it is a no goer, humanity will repeat the same mistakes given true freedom.
I would rather not trust two men, whom Denton would have no trouble in killing, than humanity. Sorry folks, that just me. Nothing personal.

One thing I never understood about the New Dark Age ending was that everett had a prototype for the echelon system(morpheus) in his house. What was to stop him from using morpheus to take helios's place temporarily. If he moved morpheus to area 51 or the Duclare mansion he could hook it up the global comm systems. Then he would be hailed as a hero for keeping the planet from the New Dark Age.
