Year after year I am more and more convinced that I am the only person in the world who likes Thieves' Guild. :weird:
I played it a couple of years ago when I bought TG from GOG, and I actually liked that the player had to memorize the places and not only rely on the map (that was almost next to useless, except when telling which house was in north and which was in south). I wouldn't dare trying to ghost it and the sewer gate was a headache, but I didn't get traumatized by it.

I love the Thieves' Guild; it's one of the missions I look forward to. The layout is confusing and messy, sure, but it really embodies the kind of surreal, dreamlike atmosphere that made TDP so special. Exploring realistic buildings, to me, isn't as interesting as exploring strange places that wouldn't exist in reality. It's obvious, then, that The Sword is my favourite, but almost all of the TDP/Gold levels have this quality to some degree.
Thief 2 has a different atmosphere, less dreamlike, but still enveloping in its own way.

I'd have to say Thief 2. Partly this is because I really only got into Thief when I played the "Life of the Party" demo; I'd previously played some Thief, but it didn't quite click. Mostly, though, it's the environments; Thief has great moments, but the environments feel more basic and less coherent, less like real places. I love the inventiveness of some of the original Thief's levels, but I simply enjoy navigating those environments less than the Thief 2 ones, and it's this that pulls me in.

For me it's also Thief 2. The Atmosphere is more steampunkish and the missions feel more lived-in. The first mission I played was Shipping and Receiving, where I really liked the victorian/industrial architecture with those medieval watchmen.
Angelwatch and the Wayside mission are also great levels.
BTW: Is it just me, or does TDP really seem to be colder than TMA, like it's winter in TDP and summer in TMA?

I cannot really decide between Thief 1 and 2. But I had to vote for TDP/Gold, because of Thief 2 last missions. Repeated mission seemed like an good idea at first, but later become boring(could have been done better) and I hated Soulforge. While in TDP they overdid it with the undead, I found children of karras far more annoying.

I love it too! It's one of those missions I'll replay on its own every now and then (including many others). I've ghosted it a couple times, too. (Though on my last replay I lazily pulled out the blackjack a few times...). I love the maze-like design and the underground atmosphere. I also like its labyrinthine feel, going from the outside, to the tavern, to the hidden casino, to the sewers, to the mansions, and back again! It gives a great sense of accomplishment (like most / all Thief levels).

My vote for: Thief 1. Thief 1 - definitely the best.
0 votes for Thief 4 (2014). Looks wild :o

Probably Thief 2, for the atmosphere, setting and level design (particularly Life of the Party). Deadly Shadows is likely in second place, followed by the reboot. Unfortunately, I never really go into the original, as much of a classic as it is.

I personally consider The Dark Project and The Metal Age to be basically one game. One long, glorious game.
Also, some more love for the Thieves Guild from here!
