It's a sad day for Whitney's friends and family for sure. And I won't stoop to the morbid celebration of her exit like some folks might. But I must confess that I've always considered her overrated and her iconic "I will always love you" is so horrible that it's parody worthy.
The age of her demise has nothing to do with her "legendary" status. She made forgetable dance pop and dreadful Disney-esque ballads. She had one redeeming album where she emulated Motown vintage song-craft then she returned to her bland pop style trying to catch-up with her progeny like Mariah Carey. Her musical legacy is everything I hate about late 80's to mid 90's pop and modern soft rock. At least now we can take comfort that the modern dance stations play what is essentially second-hand techno for kids. We are still left with Celine, Mariah, and scores of American Idol contestants who will echo that music style ad-nauseum infinitum. So "no" she does not belong to the 27 club and does not merit a similar reverence. She really did not do anything remarkably new but instead just furthered the evolution of existing pop music trends (such as the abominable castration of active background music in favor of empty pads and bland symphonics to draw all the focus to the singer). If such "innovations" are to be revered, so be it. She won't have my vote, obviously. Amy Winehouse did everything (musically) Whitney should have done. Lively and musically challenging background arrangements, complex rhythmic pockets, and genuine emotional gravitas. Not to pit them against each other but if anyone wonders at the accolades for Winehouse verses Whitney they need only to listen to the background music of each and it will be clearly evident who had a more compelling body of work.

What's really irritating is that the celebrity media thrived on her misery while she lived (as it does with every star who goes downhill). But after they're dead, all of a sudden it's "Oh, she was a legend, it's so tragic!"
Fucking hypocrites

Top comment on that video: "Houston, we have a problem".
Oh, man. Don't ever change youtube assholes.
Youtube video comment boxes are the internet's new septic tank. It seems almost every video with more than 1 page of comments has a flame war going on.

I agree...WTF?...What are the chances that both mother and daughter would meet their conscious end in a tub? What the fuck is going on here?...Just a strange coincidence?...or was it in fact a cursed, evil tub that lured them both to their doom?...The world may never know.

And what are the odds that it would take you over THREE YEARS to notice this?

The odds are zero that anyone could have noticed that 3 years ago.

A curiously tragic note...
Bobbi Kristina Brown (Whitney Houston's daughter) was found unresponsive in a bathtub in late January 2015. She was kept in a medically induced coma for several months...later
dying in hospice care on July 26, 2015, at the age of 22.
Whitney's death was over three years back...yet her daughter, Bobbi, died just last month after being found in a tub just like her mother.
