What about the (T3) Compendium of Reproach?
jtr7 on 4/9/2007 at 23:17
Naw. I don't think Al Gore made the Compendium of Reproach.:p
Keeper Beege on 5/9/2007 at 08:50
No, but Al Gore told me that the Compendium of Reproach causes global warming.

Does that mean that Gamall is actually ManBearPig in disguise?

there seems to be multiple strata of magic, Elemental (earth, air, water, fire) and meta-elemental (dark, light, life).
Magical energies crystallize where they gather (ie, form the elemental crystals - air in high places where the wind breaks, water in pools and rivers, etc, etc).
Okay, now I'm picturing Dark energy crystal arrows.
Dark crystal arrow not only kills someone, but causes them to return as an undead. Most people come back as zombies or skeletons, particularily 'interesting' people come back as haunts and vampires.

Of course, then you'd also have to include Holy Crystals, for those places where Holy energy is at its peak, like Hammer cathedrals, that would be the polar opposite, they would kill the undead and, if strong enough, raise them as NPCs.... :weird:

Well, as I suggested, I don't think Dark energy crystalizes so much as congeals, like slidge; it gathers, like attracting like, until it reaches a critical mass that causes the dead to rise.
Similarly, I'd say that Holy/Light energy is too rarified to be collected in an ordinary fashion - although the theory does explain how our man in shadows can create a blessed holy symbol in Return to the Haunted Cathedral - a priest would normally bestow a portion of divinity (Holy/Light energy in this case) to the symbol; there is a contraption in the Cathedral that enables the creation of a blessed object in some way without the intervention of a priest.
Again, it all ties in.

EDIT TO ADD: And by 'it all ties in', I mean it fits in with the in-game resources we have available - the Trickster's ritual, the books where he's planning his Dark Project, and the Book of Ash found in LOTP. Three sources suggest that these are the fields/divisions of magic in the setting; the rest is extrapolation based on how the elemental energies behave.
I'd even go further and posit that vine arrows are (possibly) Life/Verdant/Green/Leaf "crystals".

So here it is, in all it's glory - the page from the Book of Ash!
