In thief gold, i remember there was a conversation between a female servant and make servant where the male asks "do you ever feel like there's someone watching you?" and the female says, "The Sir, you mean?"
also, i've heard several guards in thief 2 make reference to this "sir" guy. After saying something like, "Who made that noise?", the guard will say, "Probably just the Sir, checking up on things."
unless i'm very badly mistaken.
Any ideas???

Right away in the first Mission of the series...
"I've been thinking. The Sir should really beef up security."
In this case, The Sir would be Lord Bafford.

yep - a reference to the man-in-charge. Oddly, I can at least say that here in the US, it's a rather rare use of a person's title. It's considered proper, I guess.

That's easy to fix -- start using it at work. "Hey Bob, I passed the Sir in the hallway and he was saying something about the Pittsburg project. Better get the RFP done before the Sir comes looking for it."
