First person to respond with Steam ID can have a copy of Civ 5 which I got as a pre-order reward for X-COM.
I already own Civ 5 you see.

Ooh. I'd love me some Civ, if it's still available.
Pemptus on Steam, surprisingly.

You not a member of TTLG Kru on Steam?
I've requested you as a friend. Confirm I have the right Pemptus and then I'll send it :)
Pemptus on 1/10/2012 at 20:06
I rarely use Steam for social stuff, so probably not in the group, no.
edit: hot update! Just joined! Omg!
I've accepted the friend request. This is, indeed, the Pemptus you're looking for. :)
edit: aaand got it. Thanks a bunch!

I enjoyed Civ 5 a lot while waiting for the X-Com release, i haven't played Civilization since the first game on the Amiga :)

Well, now that I got a chance to play it proper, I can offer my 2 cents. Keep in mind I am jumping straight from Civ1/Alpha Centauri to Civ5 here.
So yea, things I didn't like:
* Shared happiness vs. per city (tho I can understand why - managing 20+ cities in original civ was a chore for this reason)
* Any unit can embark on water - kind of cheapens the naval and sea-exploration imho. Back in Civ1, sending a cross-continent boat with warriors and settlers was a frikkin EVENT, it felt like a real exploratory mission. here's just "oh yea my little settlers transformers turned into a boat."
* The "Next Turn" button not appearing until you go through all to-do's. I like the to-do list in case I forget something, but not being able to proceed until I tell every unit to "do nothing" is annoying. I also got a free policy once but wanted to save it for later, but it wouldnt let me end my turn until I chose one. boo!
* Non-stacking squares. A decently sized army is a pain to maneuver on tighter islands ugh!
* Doesn't seem like there is any "corruption" anymore. I didnt get far enough to see if they have "pollution" or stuff.
Things I like:
* Policies (reminds me of Alpha Centauri)
* Simplified tech tree. That is one simplification that I welcome, the Civ1 (or AC's) was a tangled mess; I would admire a man who could actually grasp it in their head.
* Ranged combat. Surrounding my city with chariot archers and raising hell, muahaha!
Things I don't care for:
* Important persons. So far their "special skills" seem kinda meh, so I just go with a science dude and get a free tech.
All in all, it feels far more simplified/streamlined than original civ or AC, going a little overboard in a few areas. But then I also can understand why; the originals were not very accessible to beginners and late-game macro could be a chore.
