I don't know. Maybe they'll start the game as they did in the first. An intro, then you get to customize your pal JC. They'll ask if you want male or female. Then once you get into the game, maybe they'll just show it from different points of view. The female could possibly be a whole different person than JC who happened to be augmented in the same way somehow.

I agree with buglunch. The female and male versions should be different with one another to make for more diverse builds of characters. Th female could be more agile and have better aim but less life and the male could have more life and maybe more aptitude with heavier weaponry or maybe even have a slightly larger inventory.

If John Travolta was a favorite male JC Denton choice, who would be a good choice for a female? C'mon, think of some good ones!

this'll sound really generic of me...but...i think keanu reeves would be better at jc than john travolta.
1. two words, The Matrix. need i say more?
2(apparently, yes). travolta is OLD. jc is, (as i estimate) about 27 or 28 years old, so, reeves would be better. not to mention tavolta is more a family guy these days (yeah, yeah, i saw Swordfish, and Face Off).
3. in addition to #2, reeves is one of the few "young" (i know he's probably 30-something) actors who really have talent.
4. the body shape. jc has one of those thin but strong bodies, and travolta is more bulky these days. he just looks more like reeves.
this kinda makes sense, doesn't it?

I think having differences between the male and female characters is just stereotyping. The Augs and Skills we develop, not to mention the modded weapons, are more than enough for us to create a unique character.
I think the gender choice would be there for purely cosmetic reasons. Probably to make up for the horrendous selection of mingers we had to choose as JC Denton in Deus Ex 1.
