The night after I finished it I had a nightmare where I was wandering through a Cradle-esque place, very dark, and the lights started flickering and I was transported to my downstairs living room and I woke up. Unnerving.

I told my friend to play through the Cradle. He said it wouldnt be scary, but after half way through he quit, and that night he was half paranoid about ANY footsteps outside or anything at all like that. Well, at least he saw my point :ebil:

Seriously, i've had a couple of thief related dreams, but nothing spawned from the Cradle.

cradle isn't even scary. I don't understand where this 'ZOMG CRADULZ' comes from. Good mission, but not scary.

Depends on how imersed you are into it. Anything can change immersion level, like something outside, the lighting, or even being in 3rd person view. Perhaps not scary for you, but no matter what, the cradle is a disturbing thought if you treat it as a reality rather than pixels.

It has nothing to do w/immersion in my case. I get completely sucked into games like Thief and Deus Ex, TES. I just didn't think it was scary at all. The only credit I'll give it is that the backstory is somewhat disturbing, but more in a "huh, that's f-ed up.....poor kids" and move on kinda way. I just have no idea how The Cradle became THE scary level to end all scary levels. I mean, people actually dread playing that level and fear it. Why? It's nothing more than a dressed up Zombie level.

IMO, i think it's down to all the comments about it it's had. Some people frighten easily, others don't. It's like a scary movie... If there's been alot of people that it's scared the shit out of, and those people have made a right song and dance about it, those that have yet to watch it, having heard all the rumours about how scary it is, will watch the movie behind a sofa or something, expecting it to scare them to death! Look at all the commotion that "The Exorcist" caused and yet when some of us watched the movie, we found it to be crap and completely unscary! People running out of the Cinemas, being sick and stuff? :wot: WTF?
