The Thief 3 zombies were pathetic compared to the original. Okay, they were faster, but that didn't have that 'feel' that I get when going through cragscleft or THC or any of the original zombie missions.
I would have to agree. Something about the TDS zombies seemed too... cartoonish. I suppose it's the lack of proper atmosphere around them. I wouldn't really be too scared of zombies on a ghost ship. Still zombies are creepy, so they're to be feared either way.

You just
had to mention zombies, didn't you?! :wot:
Yes I did. :D I have a love/hate relationship with zombies. I hate to fight 'em, but I love to see 'em fall (or explode, yay!).

Except not tonight because it's sleeting and starting to turn to snow here and I get cold easily. :cheeky:
You must have gotten the same storm as I did. I'm a ways south of you (I shan't say where, because I'm very ashamed of it. Let's just say it's redneck country.) It was a creepy storm, there were tornados everywhere. Kinda like the twin strip storms we had a few months ago. I was crapping my pants back then, because I'm scared to death of tornados. Luckily, tonight I was gigging, so I had something to take my mind off of it.

Easy, comrade Dia. Just let me nip over to the store and buy us some warm woollen jumpers, in charcoal black, and we can go right back out and par- uh, I mean stea-ling. :joke:
Does anyone mind if I go off the beaten track a bit and grouse about Thief III? I've only just started playing for the first time, but I need to grouse.
For one, why does the City look so clean?! I love the hi-res textures (finally, you can see real cobblestones!), but now everything seems to have a faint glow or sheen, and I'm actually beginning to tire of the blue-sparkly light that filters in from building windows.
I don't know what it was, but Thief I & II definitely had a "grittier" feel..the crudeness, the sense of space and overpowering presence of architecture that made you feel like you'd never have a chance of survival if you as much as ****ed up one tiny bit...
(Actually I think it was the textures...notice how the bricks in previous Thief games were laid insanely close together? Hundreds an' hundreds of 'em covering a massive, towering wall anywhere *shivers*)
And I was getting a bit tired of resisting the urge to kill every damned City Watch guard patrolling, esp. now that one needs to travel back and forth....I just wanna run through the streets and I don't care if I wake the whole neighbourhood LOL!

Actually, sometimes it's easier just to run straight through them all. It takes them a couple of seconds to realize what they're seeing, and then a couple more for them to draw their sword/bow/what have you, so you have plenty of time to get past them. Still, patience and stealth are best, young grasshopper.

WHY in God's name would you be ashamed of where you live? Anyplace south of here is absolutely beautiful country! Silly you! (My first husband was a good ole boy; he taught me a lot of very colorful phrases. He also called me Darlin', in a honey-sweet tone of voice. Got to me every time! ;) )
If you lived closer I'd be calling you every time I had a hoarde of zombies to face. That way you could just come over, dispatch them, and then I could get on with my game. (I
really, really hate them.) :cheeky:

Our area is at the tail end of 'Tornado Alley', so I can sympathize. Earlier in the day while I was still at work it got very green and dark out; always a warning sign that conditions are ripe for a tornado. I don't know of anyone that's NOT scared of tornadoes, Havvoc. I've been through a couple and pray not to have that experience ever again. I HATE it when they hit at night! You can't see them coming; you just hear them and feel the pressure change drastically. Hope nobody was hurt last night.
Friend Little K: can we please make sure the jumpers ('sweaters' over here) aren't wool? It itches too much. Tx! :D

True, it is nice down here, except for the fact that I don't like warm weather, nor do I like the humidity. It's hard enough for me to breathe as it is, that's why I'm moving to California in a few months. As for zombies... I dunno. I just lob flash grenades at them from a distance until they fall apart. I just killed a shipload of them, but I've done it so many times, it's easier now.
I've personally never been in a tornado, but my fear goes a little deeper than normal. I'll literally freeze up if I hear that there are tornados about. In the storm I mentioned earlier, there was one not a mile north AND south of me. Needless to say, I was terrified. Though zombies scare me almost as much...
Wow, that's really off topic.

When I play Thief, I become one with the shadows. I play for the thrill of being the unknown. In other games, there may be something hiding from you, lurking in the shadows, in the rafters, around the next corner. In Thief you ARE that something. You're what brings fear and confussion into the polygonal hearts of your enemies. Even when what you're up against is some scary monster/zombie/demon, you always have the chance to strike first and end their existance before they even knew you were watching them.
Dia on 18/2/2006 at 01:06
VERY well said, T-Smith! Very well indeed! I absolutely agree (and it has nothing to do with me being vertically challenged). I just got goosebumps reading your post.
Havvoc! You're moving from Tornado Alley to Earthquake Central!! Now THAT scares me more than zombies! It does get a little humid in the midwest and southern states, so I can understand your misery. Wish you the best where ever you end up. :thumb:

That's a very good perspective... being the thing everyone is afraid of... I like that.
Thanks much, Dia. Earthquakes don't scare me much, though.

Yeah! Those were the days of Lytha and Greymouser. This place sure has changed...expect for the dog eat dog nature of Commchat.

Wish I'd had the presence of mind to join under my own member name instead of using my husband's back then. Too wrapped up in thieving, etc.

I was really intimidated by the newbie flaming in CC at first. Then I realized that the more established members flame each other even worse than they flame newbies! (Which can, at times, be the source of much amusement.)
I still find the Thief forums (fora?) a welcome relief; a breath of fresh air. And a wonderful source of information (especially when I'm stuck in an FM).
Maybe that's another one of the reasons I remain a Thief; I have friends here who feel the same way and don't hesitate to offer support and encouragement.
P.S. It's -6 (F) here in N. IL. this a.m. Even my Akita/Chow mutt doesn't want to go outside! Make sure you go someplace warm, Havvoc! Somebody remind me why I live here?
