Thats right, Martin. When thinking of the Bonehoard and the ghosts in Gervaisius' liberary, it seems quite clear that the Tricksters magic was not the only thing that could resurrect the dead.
So the Hag's glyph magic or just the trauma of the catastrophe should have been enogh to keep the inmates alive.
But the sentient Cradle is another thing...
But why did the undeads just wander inside the Cradle and didn't come out? Why did the Cradle become a building with some sort of own mind?

I don't think they COULD leave... for the same reason garret and Lural (sp?) couldn't: The Cradle "Remembered" them.
Though as for how the cradle gained sentience...some things are better left up in the air. You delve too much into it, and it loses some of the coolness =)

Not to mention the gate from the Inner Cradle to the Outer Cradle needed power to operate, and the power was out so the gate was locked.
That would explain why the puppets couldn't get out, but not the spirits.
The Cradle's memories would take care of the rest.

Why so complicated? Zombies - and they are zombies - usually don't leave the place they are haunting. Like said before: they stay in the area where they died and, well, haunt it.
The fire was not because of the hag, it was one of the insanes (forgot his name - was it King No One?). It happend to the cradle what usually happens in this city when many people die violently or just before their time: they become zombies and start haunting. No need for Trickster-magic as there is no such in the Bonehoard or at Gervasius'.
The memories however are because of the hag, imo. I think she made the cradle memorize people - first of all Lauryl - because she needed her to stay on earth as a ghost. Outside of the cradle she could have just asked someone to wipe her blood over these glyphs (for example Drept). But like this whoever comes to save her first must delete Lauryl from the houses' memories, watch out not to become zombie-food, travel into the past and back, has a little problem with the cradle possibly reminding him and needs to get out alive somehow. THEN he can start searching for the glyphs and spilling some blood.
By causing such an effort Gamall made quite sure nobody would do it for quite a time.

This brings up an interesting theory. Did Gamall somehow purposely instigate/bring about the events at Shalebridge Cradle? I'm going to have to come down on the "no" side, with reservations; while the Glyphs are very good at foretelling the future, even Gamall couldn't read them with exact precision (she couldn't tell why the Unwritten Times prophecy involved Garrett so much instead of her), so I doubt she could have known everything that would happen involving the Cradle. Also, the revolt of the White Hall Nine and the fire set by Ms. Wrenfield happened after Gamall had already stolen Lauryl's skin, and I doubt the Hag would have stuck around after she'd gotten what she'd come for.
However, another idea springs forth from this. Was Lauryl simply a target of opportunity for Gamall, who snatched her up at an opportune moment while she and Drept played- or did Gamall infiltrate the Cradle beforehand, and choose Lauryl deliberately? It would have been child's play (no pun intended) for Gamall to take the place of a Cradle staffer, observe the children and select one.
Mysteries within mysteries.... :sly:

People who live for a long time sometimes do mundane things because anything else is boring.
DarthMRN on 19/12/2004 at 02:41
That is as Thief should be. Unfortunately, TDS isn't excactly ripe with such mysteries.
Heh! Not only is the Cradle arguably the best and most intense mission in TDS, its one of the few where you have to speculate without really reaching an answer as well.

Isn't this the level built by the fan instead of the staff at Ion??
Navyhacker006 on 19/12/2004 at 21:46
No, Null (why do I always want to call him Void?) is an employee of Ion Storm.
The editor isn't out, so fans can't make levels...yet. Soon...

The hag has been around for centuries, as was stated. A book at Gamall's lair states this. When the Keepers first found the Transformation glyph, they recongnized that it could be used as a horrible weapon, so forbid use of it.
That treaties was signed by Gamall herself. So not only was she associated with them, but she was one herself. It would have taken a long time (centuries even) for the Keepers to forget that glyph, which Gamall took great pains to cover up the exsistence of.
