how can any sane taffer cite 'Ambush' and ignore 'Assassins'.

Well I've only played original Thief. Are the Gold missions any good? Is there a Gold patch for the original Thief or not? I played the Gold demo, and that played very well.
BTW, Assassins is indeed a good mission, notably the start. Also, did anyone else have visual problems with Thief. Specifically, every time I've played it (as well as on Gold demo) the 2D bow-sight frame is partially missing. Solutions?

I would say this
Thief 1:
PRO"S
Overall better story
Overall better cutscenes
More creative
Way more intense thank T2
thrilling
could and should be made into a movie ;)
Hammers are difficult to kill
CONS
too much use of undead
not enough use of keepers (glifs are not enough)
unrealistic environments
poorer graphics
missions too short
Tief 2:
PRO"S
Good graphics
more realistic
more humans
more emphisis on stealth (just being a thief)
a good story
Could be made into a good movie
a good twist in the story
More area's for FM"S to be done
CONS:
not enough ways to kill those god damn machines...
mechanist humans too easy to kill
more flaws
had chemical/biological weapons
"all should hear the words of karras, the words of karras"
left you haning on two points 1. are the mechs gonna survive? 2 are the bluecosts gonna be a factor again?
"praise karras"
karras's voice" (it annoyed me after a while how about you?)

This may be because I played TMA first, but now that I played a good bit of TG, I decided that I liked TMA better...They both have their good and bad points.
-In TG, I noticed that the levels are 'cozier' and they have more places to be explored, as well as more oppertunities for climbing rooftops.
-The zombies scared me at first until I realized how cool it was when they exploded (provided I had space to move and the right equipment)
-'The Sword' looked like something out of American McGee's Alice and it was really cool.
-I really thought the levels up to 'The Lost City' were easy and didn't require too much stealth (probably because I played it on Normal Difficulty)
-TG maps flat-out SUCK
-Most of the levels beat out most of those in TMA as far as size went and they seemed to make me try to figure out my own way through them instead of being subtly directed with a fairly straight path
-The textures didn't impress me very much and rope arrows are a little buggy
-TMA puts a greater emphasis on stealth and the robots add to this. The guards seem a little more alert and have peripheral (?) vision.
-Until I became an expert at shooting water arrows into their vents, the robots proved to be terrifying
-Luckily, undead mostly protected areas with extra and optional loot
-The levels had a darker feel and were more realistic, they also had better textures that blended well
-'The Lost City' wasn't as good here. It felt empty
-I liked the ambient sound a little better

Do you honestly think people will be dissing Thief 3 in five years time? "OMG THEY DONT MAKE GAMES LIKE THAT ANY MORE"
People are slagging off Thief 3 to be the cool cats, a bit like seeing the new Exorcist film and comparing it to the original and slating it for no pea soup puking.

I dont want to declare which I like better,
I totally loved Thief II, I though everything was just done a little bit better than Thief Gold.
But Thief DP / Gold, has a some special character I just cant forget,
It's like choosing between a Shiraz and a Merlot, or PE's Nation of millions and Fear of a Black Planet ;)

No, I don't think people will be discussing TDS at all.
SubJeff on 10/11/2004 at 08:23
I think they will. But it will be more of a discussion on wasted oportunities and the error of cross-platform development in the days of under powered consoles. The next (and next) gen consoles may present a more reasonable proposition for that kind of development.
And when the editor comes out it will spawn much to be discussed for everymore. Depending on what we can do with it . . .

I think this very much depends on the editor - whether it comes out, what it permits etc. If it can be used to create levels that are similar in size to those of TDP, and if people are as creative with it as they are with DromEd, then TDS will have more longevity than you suggest IMO. If not, you might be right.
