I also like T2 better.
It has a better storyline, IMO. Especially starting from mission 7, it is like solving a mystery and sabotaging the enermy's plan. That almost takes half of the whole game, and each mission reveals a little bit more truth and information.
I haven't played T1, but from the walkthrough, I learnt the storyline of it. I can see that both T1&T2 have their last mission in the way of 'final attack' on the boss. I guess this is the most preferable way to end a thief game.
Balance am I?

I played Thief first, then I later played Thief 2 and eventually I found Thief Gold.
I would have to say I prefer the movies, music and scary atmosphere of Thief but I prefer the more consistent 'thief' gameplay, steampunk atmosphere, story, level design and just about everything else in Thief 2.
Thief 2 for me!

Okay... don't kill me now... but.. I've never played thief1!
But im going to buy it and try it definetly!

you really should. :)
I didn't play T2 for a long time and just read the walkthrough and dialogs for getting the storyline. Finally got through, more or less...I guess I'll never do the soulforge mission completely, but up to that I just had a ball playing it. The partytime level I'll be playing over and over again, the bank mission was fun, also. Maybe reading the storyline first was the reason that T1 really catched and frightened me and T2 didn't, but as it's happen, I'll always prefer T1 to T2.
By the way: why did Karras want to kill Garrett so desperately? I hear something about “as I couldn't make you collaborating with me, I decided to kill you.”. Where's the point?

I think this very much depends on the editor - whether it comes out, what it permits etc.
No argument here. If the editor comes out, and it allows enough flexibility to de-dummify TDS back up to Dark engine levels, then we'll have something worth talking about years from now.
Thirith on 10/11/2004 at 17:17
Out of interest, ZylonBane: How much 'de-dummifying' would be necessary for you? Ideally it would allow us to have larger levels, swimmable water, rope arrows, no loading zones etc. etc. - but practically the only thing I'm expecting is bigger levels. Does the game remain the same huge disappointment to you until it does everything the Dark Engine did?
ToolFan2007 on 10/11/2004 at 17:25
Yep. Prepare for a quote he ripped from Something Awful about how much you are a console kiddy. If I recall correctly he claims he's never even played the full game, so it tells you he's just out to be cool by claiming he didn't give his money to evil games companies who are supposedly selling out Thief. ;)

ToolFan, I asked him, not you. Did you read his post in the "So am I the only one...?" thread? Even though I personally think that ZB is setting himself up for disappointment and sees things too negatively, it's not as if he's without arguments. I see many of these too, they just don't ruin the game for me, but that doesn't make me right and him wrong. So please let him answer for himself if I've asked him, okay?

I liked thief1 more it was bug free :thumb: At least for me it was.
Also I missed the burrics, and zombies
Most of all I missed jumping throught the roof messing my paints and hitting escape at once when something came from no where and got you. Just had a better atmosphere I think than thief 2.

I know this is off-topic ;) , but I liked Thief 2 better than Thief 1, actually. I think the main reason for this is because I played Thief 2 before playing Thief 1. Therefore, most of the 'awe' we experience when playing in the Thief universe for the first time happened to me in Thief 2. Many great moments for me in Thief 2. Other reasons are better graphics and fewer zombies. I was very pleasantly surprised -- shocked, actually -- that Thief 1 was just as rich with dark moody atmospheres and polish (for being an older game) as Thief 2. Thief 1 held up very nicely next to Thief 2 when I finally played it.
