Not exactly a big surprise since Thief 2 is Thief 1 with minor enhancements to the engine they both share in every respect.

Yep, exactly! That's why I was so surprised. I thought it'd be taking a considerable step backward on quality by playing the earlier game, but it wasn't. It held up very nicely; even better than T2 in some respects.

I also like T2 much better than T1. I prefer the posh mansion type missions much more than just going from one drab dungeon into the other.

lol at my enthusiasm for thief 3.
Ahhh when we were young..err.
I think thief 2 gold would have blown us all away; things would have been straightened up, characters fleshed out some more. As it stands my comments from march 2003 still reflect the way i feel...

it is not a question of which one is better... they both complement each other - thief 2 is not just thief 1; it takes the game in a different direction, focusing on the people of the city and strange stompy robots. But then, thief 1 will always be the original and nothing will beat that first "stealth fix". And so instead of discussing which one is better, we should see them as a whole

I know this is off-topic ;) , but I liked Thief 2 better than Thief 1, actually. I think the main reason for this is because I played Thief 2 before playing Thief 1.
This seems to be common for people who like TMA best. I hadnt purchased Dark Project until TMA's release and played them both; back to back is the way to go..
If you get bit, playing Dark Project its hard to see how TMA could measure up.
It also felt like the end of TDP was a little more climatic, working your way to the maw to deal with The Trickster hands on...
I was disappointed with the end of TMA although there was enough to play it again.

And of course, we all remember every thought you had way back then. :erg:

I remember his thoughts well. Quite memorable, indeed. I also remember it being 67-degrees out that day -- mostly cloudy with light rain showers. I went to the local grocery store and purchased some milk, bread, and steak... and, oh, what was that other thing?? Oh yeah!! Some papertowels! Damn, that was a good day ;)

We don't have to remember, they're in this thread.

Actually I played Dark Project first and I liked it. But when I got TMA I liked it much more.

I can't understand why people don't like the undead. The fact that there were less zombies and haunts in T2 kinda was a let down for me.
Just glad they had less burricks.
Burricks are kind of like cows with smaller front legs, where the gas comes from the wrong end, and they're more protective of themselves.
Did they even have burricks in T2?
