T2X is pretty special. Here's a link for useful (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139559) Fan Missions info which includes the T2X Forum link (now in The Vault) and downloads and help threads etc. But if you do find you need any help with anything, just post in the Fan Missions forum.

It's incredible that despite the fact that you started playing Thief in 2012 you managed to appreciate it perfectly.
From your interesting review of the series, it surprised me what you wrote about Deadly Shadows and id tech 4. Even if having less resources, Thief 3 is accomplished so much better than The Dark Mod that there is no comparison. It was masterfully created by professionals which allowed to create suberb athmosphere with proper lighting, style and rendering. It is so impressive that some levels in my opinion manage to properly develop original Thief 1's world, where the previous games in the series could not or didn't have an occasion to go. But for the record, in many areas the athmosphere and style was very downgraded, for example in case with hammerites.

Haha thanks. It's just funny it took me this long to finally hit up the Thief games, System Shock 2, and Unreal Gold (I really loved that one too), all are pretty up there on my list next to Deus Ex now and games I'll probably revisit a lot.
I think it's just the map size limitations with the TDS / IW engine that really bother me a lot. To be fair that's an argument I make about many other older FPS's / engines vs newer installments in a series... sure they may have gotten fancier, but often sacrificed space for it. Maybe the original Jedi Knight compared to Jedi Outcast is another decent example, and maybe Unreal vs Unreal 2 (though haven't played Unreal 2 yet actually), even if the maps in older titles might be more barren I guess I'm just a sucker for huge maps and places to explore. Both TDS and IW could have felt claustrophobic or something, but I never really got that vibe despite the tiny maps. I dunno just something about it bugged me in both games.
But I agree with you for the most part. Kind of like how I was on about TDS still maintaining the mood/atmosphere of the originals, the vibe was still very much the same and yeah there was a lot of good stuff there (along with the music, probably stood out more than the first two games honestly, a week after finishing TDS and the music still haunts me. South Quater probably being one of my top favorites).
But yeah I still think the story cracked the ice with the old lady and stuff at the end, was just way too silly I thought. I also forgot to mention I didn't like the Pagans one bit, I think it was their really annoying slang, lol. It was irritating because I wanted to like them because of Victoria, but yeah. The tree monster things were awesome though and the Pagan levels themselves were pretty cool. I'm glad they didn't focus too much on the faction elements, just makes more sense for Garrett to be neutral and on his own, so I didn't really even bother and the game didn't feel like it pushed me into that stuff. Robbing the Cradle was awesome and I liked the stone enemies towards the very end, but yeah once the girl came in... the story went out the window to me. lol
I totally agree they certainly could have done a lot more with the Hammerites though. Which is disappointing because Fort Ironwood was one of my favorite parts, and the scriptures throughout the level made them out to be a bit more insane than they seemed in the first game. Maybe not Karras crazy, but pretty freaky in their own right. So yeah I wish the game did involve the Hammers a bit more. They probably could have done away with the whole Keeper focus and maybe done a lot more with the Hammers or something.
Oh and back on the engine thing, I do have to admit I've barely touched The Dark Mod. It looks great though and the maps are big again which is awesome, but I'm not sure if I'm in the mood to play it now since the mechanics feel a bit different (sneaking and blackjacking). It took me forever to get used to TDS as well though, since the blackjacking is... supposedly a trigger or something instead of you actually hitting the enemy, it was just so weird at first. But the gameplay itself was amazing once I got used to that. I did like the lockpicking too, it wasn't a stupid "minigame" like in a lot of newer games, nor was it kind of pointless like the first two games where it was just you sitting there waiting. lol
So yeah I am still in the mood for more sneaking... but not sure about The Dark Mod for now. I might go for TX2 or TDP (since I played Gold).

I didn't play Deus Ex... I recently played the third part and deleted it after half an hour, I wonder if I would like the first one.

Actually the main problem with modern FPS is linearity of maps, they are corridors with side rooms instead of labyrinths to explore. Instead, they are designed to ensure that consumer (hard to call console gamer a player) recieve all prepared passive entertainment from watching the script.
About the hammerites I meant their looks, especially character models, they looked too realistic and grim, certainly anti-athmospheric.

Should have waited until you got to the first hub area, the streets of Detroit, before deleting it, it gets quite a bit better at that point. The first also gets pretty good when you get to the first hub area. A lot of people hate the first mission (no idea why), so try to play past it.

Eh, nothing better to do, so I will bite.
Yeah, $3 million and counting starting with the Kickstarter (one of the most successful ever), the original Interplay dev team reassembled, plus Chris Avellone and Mark Morgan are on board. I guess I don't need a month's worth of groceries after all.
And on another note, Elite 4 finally coming out is nice, wonder how it will stack up against Pioneer and (less directly) Space Engine.

The starting mission is pretty linear but yeah, Detroit itself and onward has some nice hubs. You can have a lot of fun in the police station, depending on your mood.
...oh, this is a T1/T2 VS fight related thread. Sure why not stay on topic.
T1 (more specifically TG) is the better game when eschewing non-LGS content, but T2 has a leg up in maps. Not to say T1 has bad user maps, just fire up "Events In Highrock" or the Cistern. But T2 has rather a lot more offerings that are of that same quality.
Same dynamic between Doom and Doom 2 really. Doom 2's 32 levels can't beat the first 9 of the original (not even mentioning the other 2 or 3 episodes), but try running Deus Vult or Pleiades (specifically the ZDoom version) with DOOM.WAD.

But I didn't like the stealth and combat mechanic, and it was just series of dull rooms with guards.
