SE=Well if I were a T:TDP lover, I'd keep my mouth shut and not try to pick a fight with the the TMAers :p

It's also because we're, on average, older, smarter, wiser, better educated, have a higher income, have lower body fat, taller and, yes, better looking.(and Sombras has a really fast car)
I think they'd better just give up now.

I was thinking about that after I had typed a post about preferring Thief2 to T: DP. I didn't think about the fact that my first experience with Thief was The Metal Age. I just started T: dp about two months ago and I just passed the Lord Bafford Level last month (not enough time anymore). I've never experienced Thief Gold. So, maybe that has a lot to do with it. Those who began with Thief Gold or DP of course would be more likely to prefer those ones. Those who began with T2, would be most likely to prefer it. Hmm.

Christ, I never realised there was such a rift in the world of Thief-fandom.
I've yet to play T1 so far (just won a copy on ebay) but from what I gather, it seems to be a case of whether you prefer actual thieving in "realistic" locations like houses and banks, or scary encounters with fantasy-critters.
Personally I thought the story behind T2 was pretty good (aside from a magical demon-woman in a fantasy univese saying words like "there is not enough biological matter to sustain a chain reaction" - dialogue like that belongs in Star Trek, for fuck's sake) and the missions well integrated into that.
Wel, now I think about it, while "casing the joint" was in itself infinitely more fun than "kidknap", story-wise it didn't fit so well.. that close to the end of the game I felt the need to be doing something a bid more consequential than breaking into a merchant's house.

Interesting... :p Most of this arguments are sparked off by TMAers who cannot agree with the riduculous amount of TDP undead right? I have yet to see a TDPer start a topic which says: HOW CAN YOU PREFER BOTS TO UNDEAD?!
sailoreagle on 29/3/2003 at 02:10
Yes, because TDPers actually have a brain and don't expect everybody else to believe and like what they do. Surprise, surprise. :p
You walked RIGHT into this comment. And missed the sarcasm/joke the first time over. Maybe like this it's clearer. :p

That's not thunder, that's the sound of another happy thief stealing the horn of Quintis, again :D

Oh, there's straight forward thieving in TDP too, people just focus too much on the undead missions. I consider the first 'undead' mission to be fairly straight forward thieving myself... Doesn't matter if it's a tomb or a mansion, it was a simple "get loot" job for me. Assassins, Thieve's guild, Baffords, Mage Towers, Opera house, the Sword... those are pretty much straight forward thieving for me
