Why doesn't TLG have a kickstarter to do a spiritual thief successor.. - by Infiltrator84

Every time I see something new from eidos/square enix's "new" thief, I want to punch someone.
Why doesn't TLG or its former members do a kickstart and make a spiritual successor to thief? I'd back it.

It's probably not in their interests anymore. Didn't a lot of tlg get swept up by valve anyways? Valve employees have pretty *&^%$+# good work conditions.

You can make a lot of money starting up your own game though, obviously, if it's successful. I would think if T4 bombs, it might open the market up for something that was truer to the original games. I'd love to see Randy Smith start something up, although seems like his company is doing very well at the moment.
I also think a lot of people who worked for LGS on Thief really enjoyed that portion of their lives, but probably want to move on to new projects and challenges at this point.

You two fellers sure have a mighty strange way of referring to Looking Glass Studios.

TTLG - Through the Looking Glass
LGS - Looking Glass Studios
Pick one. No mixing and matching.

I think we were referring to a commercial product that would be an actual game, a campaign, with missions and everything. Where the "old devs" would actually get paid, like a real job.
TDM is awesome, but it's not a game, it's a toolset. We're talking about a completed game here.

Well, there's TDM's Crucible of Omens megacampaign, coming sometime.
Everything related to old devs is fantasy since Thief belongs to Square Enix now.
Edit: Or you know, you could play T2X.

I'd prefer if Warren Spector started a Kickstarter for a sci-fi FPS RPG hybrid.

I think a true spiritual successor to Thief would draw more attention and more $$$ for Kickstarter. TDM has shown in concept that it can be done. Tangiers has shown that people are wiling to fund a stealth game on Kickstarter too. Think of what a group of 5-10 people (hopefully which at least a couple would be LGS alums) who were getting paid and using an existing game engine could accomplish.
