(And as for supposedly being a great game, who've you been listening too? Every review I've seen has said it's only average and not what it could/should have been - and around here it's practically a swear word to some people)
I have to ask: What reviews did you read, lol? All the ones I read said the game was great (they couldn't get enough of the graphics/atmosphere). All reviews have been around 8.2 to 9.0.
I love Thief 3 so much more then the other two games... I love having 3rd person. If some people don't like the way Garret moves then it's not so hard to change to 1st person mode. Problem solved. I also like the climbing gloves much more then the old rope arrows, simply because in the city areas, there is much more stone then wood (all the buildings are made out of stone), and so rope arrows would be a big waste of time.

I disagree, but i respect this opinon. Rope arrows & vine arrows are fun and handy to use in difficult situations. It just takes a few (if not one) trys to find a "sweet spot" to shoot the arrows so one could climb. But the "spiderman gloves" was an interesting concept but i found them cumbersome and sometimes awkward to use via controls (PC specificly, edited or not :erg: ). With the Rope/vine arrows you can do a "shot on the run" and escape quickly if a guard or 2 is on your ars. :cheeky: Especially in the hall ways with the wood support beams over head .

Sadly, 1st person movement *is* the core problem.

Tragically, climb gloves only allowed you to go up and down and side to side on limited spaces. Rope arrows took you from one creative location to another creative location, often with spectacular results. Hardly a waste of time.

Rope arrows stick in ANY wood surface. Climbing gloves DO NOT work on any stone surface.
You suck lol.

Unless I missed some major secret (Thieves Highway?) I feel that climb gloves are utterly useless! Unless...
Hmmm... When I first got the climb gloves, I tried climbing for about 5 minutes until I realised that there was *no* Thieves Highway, rather a medley of strangely placed weapon upgrades! In a way, I almost was as scared as I was in RTTHC! I suddenly felt like the manfool. Poor Garrett, frantically searching for the rooftops, only to be smote down by floating gas arrows and fickle gutters. I felt the eyes of the newbies on me waiting for me to come down. I wished I was back in the Lost City dangling over lava on some rope. Is that dude trying to make a Thieves Highway mod? :cheeky: Boy, it's getting late!
I almost forgot. The main thing I used the gloves for the duration of my stay. When a Guard saw me, I looked at a shadow, ran up the damn wall, sat there until he left and came down. I'm sure the Newbs were very proud of themselves when they "discovered" this extreme tactic. Now, what else were they good for again?

I don't know why I'm saying this but who cares.
I really have very few problems personally with with the game, except when things like this happen.
Additionally, at the Bloody Ears Tavern I was sitting back and I watched the bartender mess around then go into the back room. Suddenly Iheard a bloodcurdling scream.
I panicked and ran into the back room. All the talk about the Grey Lady had put me on edge and I immediatley thought "she" might have something to do with. I found the poor sucker crushed under a wine barrel. After a few seconds of staring like a stupid idiot, I realized the whole incident had been a freak accident brought about the game engine. I reloaded a previous save feeling both edgy and embarrassed.

Well...
There's a scrape or two, here and there, that I'm attempting to show.

it's "cool" to hate thief 3 around here, apparently.
personally i love the climbing gloves. they give a kind of intimacy that ropes do not.

And yet, it didn't ruin the game. On the contrary, doing that was extremely fun.
So you enjoy shooting ducks in a barrel? And I thought you were a hardcore thief player...
Without a "No KO" objective, any FM can be reduced to this mindless tactic. It's not stealthy. It's bad game design.

So, perfect Ghosting of a T3 OM, at the highest level, is a pretty good thing?
(And do all T2 OMs have some sort of enforced level of Ghosting?)
Btw I've seen a bit of "player control" within some excellent T3 FMs.
Basically if you kill an unarmed NPC, the game tells you and then you lose!
But nothing with simply being "discovered" as ending a T3 game, yet.
