;) Dom, shalt we not reserve thine heated exchanges for our private forums?

I was wondering when you were going to get around to The Dark Mod ! Back when I was agreeing with you before, I was secretly hoping that this was a cryptic nugget about TDM.

I believe it IS possible to make a stealth game where it is ultimately
easier to play stealthy, if you're good at it. Takes more skill, but you are rewarded for being good at it.
There is nothing wrong with this principal, it applies to real life - if someone's skills lay in stealth more than combat, then it follows that they will have an easier time being stealthy. A video game emulates you having the skills that the character does, from fighting, to shooting, to being stealthy. Which does Garrett do best, in your opinion?
Until shown otherwise, TDM is the only true hope of keeping the Project's spirit alive.
Guys? Let's just forget about thief3 and talk about the Projects. :cheeky:

@ZB - heh, maybe if I just insult everyone instead of making posts of substance, everyone will be too afraid to use me as a punching bag. It works for you.
Punching is reserved for people who've shown themselves immune to reason, such as yourself.
Saying that Thief didn't get stealth quite right means you're saying it got it wrong. At this point, you may as well just tattoo "DUMBASS" on your forehead.

Whenever I see ZylonBane in the recently posted section, my heart does tend to skip a beat.
Seriously, Domarius, the statement you made that Bane if talking about was probably the *one* thing you shouldn't have posted. Remember, the Project is our friend! We *must* defend it to the bloody death!
The Dark Mod shares similar goals, so we are on the same team.

@Spar, as usual you're coming in late and missing out the point of the argument, and just taking the most recent thing out of context. I was referring to the flashbomb tactic I described at least twice before. I'm not going to explain it again, so if you don't know what it is, don't expect me to reply to anything you have to say.
Dom, Dom, Dom! As usually you are trying to be the hero of the poor and defending something which is plain wrong. You did NOT talk about flashbombs you were talking about COMBAT. Even if you suddenly would limit it to flashbombs, you still would be wrong, because it also requires more training to use these as an exploit than just using stealth. Lets face it. Thief is very good at stealth gameplay and not so good at combat gameplay, even though it is fun for some. So LGS did exactly what they set out for. I know that you think you are the greatest game designer but you have yet to show that you can design a game even half as good as LGS did.

I realise the timing is pretty bad, but when I quoted all those examples you kept mentioning, I forgot to note that I had reread the thread at that point and noticed that you were the only one who made mention of that tactic at all. I thought it was a bit lopsided to build an argument out of something absurd that you brought to the table. This feels too much like arguing to me. Let's do some fun stuff again! :ebil:

Threads like this make me want to bury my head in my own ass. Seriously, what is the point of these kinds of discussion? The objective seems to be to get people to hate aspects of a brilliant game - that's all these comparisons seem to achieve. And that's just unfortunate...

Excellent thread you have here guys. Three similar threads at top of the forum - it's something...
I think someone should create a T3 vs. T1/2 FAQ (featuring TDM vs. T3Ed) with links to another 138 or so threads about it and stick it to the very top.
Goldmoon Dawn on 21/5/2006 at 12:00
Ya know what? Yer right.
There ain't a whole lot to talk about these days, when it comes to Thief. Maybe if part III was the masterpiece it should/could have been, the nature of this particular board would be different!
Unfortunately, III sucked, and they ain't makin' no more.
Defending the original Projects is a vigilant task. Keep in mind, that as soon as The Dark Mod infiltrates the community, these types of threads should die down, because there will finally be something besides The Dark Project to talk about.
Until then, every single noob that comes by talking about how great Deadly was shalt be reminded of what came before.
P.S. Dark Project rules. :ebil:

I defend a point indefinetly, while I'm sure people are not understanding what I'm saying. If you guys take it as me getting "angry" or something, that's not my problem. There's no tone of voice on the net, and I refuse to guild my posts with smileys just to prevent this.
As for my comments to ZB, he is an exception - he always is the first to reduce a discussion to school-yard level name calling, so I point this out at a moment's notice. I think it's an interesting experiment - ZB gets away with comments like "head up the arse" all the time, but as soon as I say something like "oh grow up" in response to this, it becomes a "heated discussion". Sheesh.
It's very simple - I'm just focusing on one thing in T2 (the flashbomb trick) to show it for what it is - an easy way to take out multiple enemies without stealth, to the point where the balance between stealth and direct confrontation is tipped unevenly into the latter.
Spar Spar Spar, you obviously didn't go back and read this, and Goldmoon, you seemed to have missed it entirely, so here it is one more time for everybody's benifit;
Quote:
Run around as much open area as you can, alerting all guards possible to chase you in one big group. Drop one flash bomb. Turn around and black jack them all one by one. Thus clearing out an entire area of guards by running and spending one flash bomb.
And then that T3 avoided this by causing the blackjack to remove blindness. Not the most elegant solution, but certianly transformed the flashbomb back into an escape tool, instead of an attack tool. There are better ways to go about this though, as we are going to experiment with in TDM.
And what is the point of discussing this? For me, I'm putting my principals to the test - if they only stay in my head, how do I know how well they will stand up in real life?
If it stresses you out to read it, my advice is - don't read it. But seeing as everyone who posted here seems to be stressed out by it, or something, looks like this isn't the place for a decent discussion for the hell of it anymore, which was the only reason I ever hung around. It's too bad ThiefGen has changed so, but I really don't have a reason to frequent here anymore. Besides, the double standards thing is a bit irritating. Looks like you've made quite a name for yourself here ZB - enjoy it. I'm sure you rarely get such satisfaction IRL.
