Hello forum,
I picked up T: DS off the recent Steam sale and have been playing it almost non-stop these past week. But anyway, my question:
Is there any difference as far as mission map and loot location? The first two had some objectives (the Watchman's Grave+Coins side-quest in the Thief:TDP OM Haunted Cathedral for example) and then the loot locations would change too. But as far as I can tell the only difference T: DS makes with different difficulties are the ones that change on the Goals screen, namely, AI sensitivity and number of guards. All 3 Special loots can still be stolen on any difficulty so I am just curious if T: DS only has the Difficulty changer for ppl to challenge themselves, but gives no other incentives.

Why play Thief: DS at all?

Other than harder AIs and having to collect 90% of the loot in every mission, there's no difference in story, locations, loot placement, total loot, or anything significant.
Unless the TDS experts have some insights.

Except for the Boxers Koki has a valid point.

While it is possible to trigger objectives (or anything else) depending on the difficulty level, this isn't employed in the original game AFAIK. However, there will be FMs using it.
That is, if those authors don't get frustrated by the usual discouraging TDS bashing...

The difficulty level is yet another thing fixed by the Minimalist Project... It replaces the standard Deadly Shadows difficulty levels with enforcement of different play styles - Cutpurse, Assassin, Thief and Ghost. This makes the game much more interesting and increases replayability, at least in my opinion anyway... The upshot is that the actual difficulty level gets locked at Expert but that shouldn't be a problem for anyone for anyone with at least some Thief experience.

I don't think the difficulty is "broken" per se... But that is an interesting take on it.

I once tried to ghost through the pagan tunnels with 0 bodies discovered (which is impossible -either you ghost, or you knock the thugs out with a gas arrow), one of the things i tried was lower difficulty. It appears that on the easiest level, there are less NPC's running around. I don't know if this is the same between normal and very/ hard, though...
for example, on easiest there were only 2 thugs in the first part of the tunnels, and 2 pagans less near the exit of the sewers
