Anyway, TDS was so much different from T1 and T2 because it wasn't T3. It was a poor imitation of the earlier games and it didn't even deserve the "3" in the title or the "The" in front of the subtitle, "Deadly Shadows".

English is not my native language, what I tried to say was that TDS didn't deserve the "3" in the title, so it was never granted a "3". Instead it was separated from the rest of the series even further by excluding the numeral, and changing the structure of the subtitle. They even changed the "E" to a different one. I think that's good. It should be kept as far away from T1 and T2 as possible.

I doubt their intention was to "separate it" from thief one and two, after all it is a thief series game.... But I do think they were trying to appeal to a newer audience by leaving out the "3" in the title. However, some games these days use the same format for some reason or another (maybe has nothing to do with separation but that can be the result I guess) - instead of having the sequel say "2" or "3", it has a subtitle. Take Red Faction. The third game isn't called RF3, it's called Red Faction Guerilla.

That's entirely understandable though, since the first two Red Faction games really, really sucked.
