Look, it's nice that people are sticking up for Deth and you'll note that I've done similar, if a little less loudly.
HOWEVER, this implosion of comm chat in his name isn't doing any good. All that's happening is polarisation by forcing people to defend their motivations for behaviour perceived to either be for or against him. This has the effect of creating a line in the sand which people are now standing either side of, where before things were more ambiguous.
As the man himself said, the people he cares about can still be found on facebook and Steam. Let those who like him lament his loss from the forums and those who don't deal with the fact that the forums won't be magically better in his absence.

Yup, that.
(also, edited my post, LT. You can speak in his defence better than I ever could.)

I always thought laffy was someones altnick for trolling purposes.
Faetal should change his title from verbose douchebag to voice of reason, cos he's has been making real good sense of late.

Verbose douchebag keeps people's expectations low :cheeky:

I wonder what's the reason for LT to still linger in these forums, even though he seems to have alot dislike towards it...
Anyways, I find these threads about Deths quitting very amusing :cheeky:

The flippant answer is to say "I wonder why that guy keeps throwing rocks at that building, even though he seems to have a deep hatred for the people who live there..."
The honest answer is because I got a PM from Renzatic and we started talking, so I'm sticking around for the duration of that conversation, which despite showing a lot of promise, is going south because he's now just repeating the same thing over and over again. Before, I agreed with dethtoll's stance on this place. Now, I feel like I've walked a mile in his shoes and could never possibly disagree with it. It is insanely infuriating to talk to someone and to acknowledge the points they make as being correct and to have them continually make those points over and over again as if you still disagree with them.

Generally rule of thumb: if ONE person has a problem with ALMOST EVERYBODY ELSE, the fault (if any) is more likely to lie with the one person.
Even if it's simply a 'clash of personalities', the very fact that one person continues to persist in clashing with virtually everyone else when all the evidence suggests that this will turn out the exact same way its turned out every time before...does not really paint a good picture of that one person.
As for "disproportionate banning", if a person walks into a room and flings shit at literally everybody, and some of those people then fling shit back, the fastest way to resolve the issue to the maximum satisfaction of the maximum number of parties is...to get rid of the universal shit-flinger. This is basically how moderation works, usually. It's not about post-disaster shit-management, it's working out how to best minimise shit-flinging overall. If a cohesive community has one disruptive element, then yes: that disruptive element will probably feel singled out, but they've earned that.
Really, the fact that you seem to share so many character aspects (and seem to feel so much solidarity with his position) reinforces this interpretation. Everyone else seems to get along more or less fine: TTLG isn't the problem here.

I've never minded dethtoll and while I mostly lurk here, the few times we interacted we got along fine. I'm actually a bid sad to see him go, I always had a soft spot for him. I sent him a Facebook friend request, don't know if he'll accept (I don't think I've made that much of an impression on him since I don't post all that much) but I'd like to keep in touch.
