Why do you say Thief III gots less thief-ness?
Because it's just bad and not really Thief. I'd go into more detail but there are plenty of topics where you can find people's complaints about the game.
For me, from best to worst:
TMA
T2X
TDP/T:G
TDS
I liked TMA because I felt like an actual Thief and there were almost no undead. TDP was fun and I enjoyed it immensely, it was what got me into the series in the first place - but I hated all the undead as well as Constantine's minions. TMA also had better level design.

I think TDS still has the Thief feel and gameplay intact. One reason I might recommend it over TDP/TMA is the dynamic shadows and lighting, which is a huge addition to the Thief games, e.g. creating your own shadows from physics objects, patrolling guards carrying torches, spotting guards around corners from their shadows alone, etc.
The city might not have been as well implemented as hoped, but dynamic lighting in the missions themselves—the important part of the game—really can't be overlooked.

1-Thief 2X, the Thief campaign i like the most, and as it is nearly a new game so it deserves its rank here. It nearly reconciliated me and undead/creatures missions as they were so much well done.
2-Thief MA, As i always prefer mansion/city missions, i liked Thief 2 because it got rid of the too much undead, too much weird creatures settings.
But sadly introduced too much robots that i hated equally if not more. But the incredible amount of superb Fan Missions for it let it beat Thief DP in my heart.
3- Thief DP, i liked the mansions missions, but hated the monsters/undead missions that were too numerous in the campaign for me to really keep playing again and again the same campaing like i do with Thief MA and Thief 2X.
Undead missions have gone better with time ... in Fan Missions and i began to appreciate them but i always don't like the Thief DP undead/monsters ones , like i don't like the robots missions in Thief MA
