I took a Screenie of a part that will not spoil the Story. Garrett will only see a flash of this just before he is Consumed by Death. Once he is Consumed, he will enter into the Center. Once he is in the Center, his quest for the Dark Lair will begin.
The Skull and CrossBones are almost 60 feet across.

June 12th,2010: Update on Progress. Due to the Summer Contest 2010 sponsored by Jason Otto (ottoj55) Dark is the Lair will probably go into beta Late Fall of 2010. With RL issues, and the dead line of : Escape Hammer Hill--on June 30th 2010, it probably wont be released until Early Winter.
Thanks Phantom for all of the updates. On hold until after the Contest Release.

Almost finished this one (I think), but up on the roof..
The spider doesn't appear if you ko the thieves first. I had to do this, because if the explosives detonate, the mission always fails on 'don't let the president see you'. I've tried replaying from an early save, but if I or the thieves set off the explosives - same result.
also..
Never found the basement key. I had to bash the door until a mech opened it, then I ko'd her and got in.
Where was the key?
Good fun mission though.....:thumb:

Hi frobbin hood,
Heres another way: I designed it to work like this also. Knock the Archer out first. Once you are up on the roof, climb the Dome to your left, and Knock out the Archer, use the Gas Arrow found in the Armoury on the Thief, and a flash bomb on the Mechanist Bowgirl.
You can then frob the Blocks and toss them aside to enter the Vent.
You are right, Egor doesn't appear until the Bowman shoots the fire arrow into the Powder Keg.
Once you are up on the Roof you have about 10 secs to stop them, or they will fight the Spider.
The Key to the Basement door is on the Presidents desk. The basement Mech patrolling doesn't have one.
This is strange that the explosives would fail the mission from the Bank President hearing the explosion, as he is dead, and already in the torture room.:weird
Thanks frobbin hood, I'm glad you enjoyed it!:

Thanks frobbin hood, I'm glad you enjoyed it!:Actually I had the same bug once, because the president
wasn´t dead. The problem was: after he revealed the note under the statue he just turned around went to the other statue and stood there motionless. No mechanists came to escort him to jail, so he couldn´t die and always heard the explosion. Never got this bug again, don´t know what caused it, perhaps the broken window I had back then. After reloading with a window intact, I hadn´t seen the bug again. Perhaps this clears it a bit.

Yes, That is correct! If the Bank President suspects that someone was in his office, he will remain in the room and will not follow the Lead Arrest Mech to the Torture Room. The only way around this, is not to allow the mech archer, or "Steamy the Robot to see you, as if they do, they will shoot through the window. Much more Thiefy approach:make sure lights are off.
As for the Bank President hearing the explosion only 50 feet away from him on the roof, in this case , getting the gas arrow from the Armoury, and taking out the Thief watchman. I would climb to the roof, and go up to the top of the dome behind the Statue, and go down to the ledge and sneak up on the Archer, then go to the powder keg against the wall, then take out the thief watchman, or just go into the vent while the Thieves are having it out with Egor.
I did however design the" fail on sight" if noticed or seen by the Bank President, and it is priority not to break the glass window, or leave any knocked out guards anywhere that the Bank President could spot.
If he does not leave the room, then one could almost consider the mission failed because of his suspicious nature. It pays to save in progression, so when playing we dont have to start over from more than a few minutes.:thumb:

Are we talking the same level? Roof Spider? Theives?
I've got all my objectives finished apart from "exit near the lair", and I can't figure out where to exit for the life of me. There's a locked gate near the fountain where I started that I ASSUME is where I should be heading - But I've got no key, it doesn't pick, and fire arrows seem to do bupkis.
I ended up KO'ing everyone on the level just to search the corpses and rooms in peace, and I'm still coming up empty.
-- edit --
Nevermind, if you don't pick up the spectacles, it doesn't add the whole vault objective so you end up with everything but the exit objective checked off... So... Bug? needs an extra objective in there 'find something to frame' or some such - like the whole hagen hanky thing.
-- edit --
Ok, STILL coming up empty on this 'exit to the lair' thing... President was killed on the rack, I've offed the roof guys and got the book... No spider as mentioned by someone else because I dropped them before they got off a shot... I still can't open that door by the fountain and have no clue where this alleged exit is.

If by any chance you are spotted by the Robot patrolling near the Bank Presidents office or even the Mech archer, they can and will fire through the Large window. The Bank President is touchy anyway, and if he notices the Window Broken this can fail the mission. Not usually direct, but the best way to enter the Presidents office is to jump over the Pressure Plate, near the base of the double doors, as this plate activates bright lights, then allowing the patrolling robot or guard to see you in the office.
If you cant go back to a save just prior to the Broken Window, or perhaps a guard that was knocked out and left within viewing range thru one of the windows, then try this If The President does not leave his office.
Sneak past him, and make sure all of the lights are off that matter. Go the roof, or go to the Armory and grab the Gas Arrow. When you get to the roof,
either by the way of the Dome, via the Statue door, you will have only 10-12 seconds to knock the archer out, or he will continue to shoot a fire arrow at the powder keg. Gas the Thief Watchman, and pickup the blocks from the wall vent and enter. I didn't think of a fail safe mechanism here because I designed the Fail on sight ( Bank President) to ensure that the mission would fail if Garrett had even left any evidence that he were there. Shame on me!

If you have Dew Drop Dolly, and watch Trish the child ghost deposit the scroll of instructions on the little table, there is also a key on that table which is the only key that fits the PortCullis to the Presidents Chateau. Inside his place, and on his desk is the key to the Lair's Passage, which you will see when you exit the Childs Cemetary on your right. She will be waiting at her grave for you to place the Doll on top of her grave stone, and the Ruby key will appear at the Base of the Stone.
