Inspired by another member's comment, one of the things i realized was central to me not digging Thief 3 as much as i wanted to: leaning. I thought of this funny video someone could make if he/she had a camcorder.
It would be great if someone illustrated the differences (in parody form) in the leaning between Thief 1, and 2 and Thief 3. In 1 and 2, leaning TO ME, seemed like it simulated the human ability to slowly peak ones head slyly around a corner. Even thought it was a huge lean in some cases, it seemed in my own childhood sneaking experience, realistic and believable, thus helping the immersion.
In Thief 3, the leaning seemed, well like simulating a leg stretch...an awkward leg stretch because of the engine problems(stutter).
I think it would be funny to create a well done parody of that difference. It would start out as a black screen saying something like "Leaning in thief 1", then you see the edge of a wall and someone slyly peaks their head out, looks around just moving his eyes, then his eyes narrow and he moves back behind the wall. Black screen: "Leaning in Thief 2" with a different video of the fellow slyly creaping his head out from the wall, perhaps to be authentic moving his head as he notices something, then, once again, moving slowly back.
Enter "Leaning in Thief 3!!!" Video starts out back from the wall a bit so you can see the floor.....With one huge step, you come way out from the wall TOO FAR!! "SH*T!!", you jerk back into hiding. (Maybe another black screen with a "Lets try that again", or not) So with another big awkward step, you lean out again not quite as far, but far enough to illustrate the point and having some stupid expression on your face like your oblivious to the fact that you should be trying to be stealthy. Looking all around and moving your head to its limits to get a better view like i think Jim Carry would in Ace Ventura.
oops, have to go...

To be fair, and I've thought longer and harder about this than it deserved - that's is a really bad idea. Right up there with chocolate fireguards and sizes of spandex pants that go above 14.
You know those videos on YouTube that you might find at random on a particularly lifeless Sunday afternoon, the ones with two comments one of which is "wtf" and the other one is a confused Belgian? That's where this is heading if you don't nip it in the bud right now!

It would make more sense if you make the idea bigger. Why stop with leaning. Make a video of a walk-through for three levels ... one from Dark Project, one from Metal Age, and one from Deadly Shadows.
Then it would highlight all the differences between all three, and would be a fun way to put a whole bunch of things into perspective, not only the stupid leaning of T3, but just how poorly T1's AI have aged, how dumb the T3 AI animations or player's motions were, how much T3's dynamic shadows added to the atmosphere, just how consistent were T1 and T2 between each other, etc.

Bwhahahahaha!! Never thought of the responces that video would get from the non-gamer/Thief fan. Just thinking about it now, just happening upon that video, not knowing anything else, i think would definitely stir up a "What the F is wrong with people!" comment  :cheeky:
