Xfire. Just as popular, similar community services like Friends Lists, IM'ing, Server listings, play time tracking and can be configured to automatically download game patches.
Granted of course it doesn't work with handful games and negatively some titles (like causing Stalker: SoC to not load new zones or makes Mass Effect lag like a motherfucker.)

This. You know exactly what you're getting into when you buy a game on Steam. You don't like it, you don't buy it. Simple as that. There's no reason to bitch across the grand internets about the limitations of the platform when they've been nothing but upfront about their requirements since day one.

Yes, i got a copy Call of duty 4, no steam needed:D, i told you guys i would have it in no time. Guess i´ll be able to play this game without needing to connect my pc to someone else´s machines, If steam goes out of business i´ll still be able to replay this game as long as i want:)

I like to replay a good game after a few years, i call it revivalism, nostalgia, it´s not my politic "use it and waste it" that can be well aplied to steam log...speaking of wich, i´m willing to pay handsomely to any hacker that makes some sabotages to the steam server, so any of you is interested in this job?:)
