They won't be the greatest, but they'll definitely get the job done.

That's all I need. A "small" $100 investment to play Thief 3, Homeworld 2 and Soldier of Fortune 2, and I can continue to use this compy for at least another three years. I think it's worth it, I don't really care about high settings as long as, in Thief, the lighting and sound (not related to the card) are fine.

Crikey.
The card in Biker's post absolutely has to be mislabelled. It must be a PCI Express card, which is different from PCI. This is kind of indicated in the link (PCI-X), however PCI-X and PCI Express are different things again. Yurgh
The features of the card are also far too advanced for PCI, there just isn't enough bandwidth to run the games the card could.
In short: that card would not be suitable for a PCI system.
I wish they'd used a different name when coming up with PCI Express.

Well, since the very, VERY most I want to do is run Thief 3, I'm so very tempted to buy a FX 5200 instead. It's the cheapest, much more in my budget. But everyone I've spoken to told me the FX series sucked balls. I don't know if that means it won't run Thief 3, but what can I do? Damn HP, why would they build a compy in 2005 with a mobo with no AGP or PCIe slots? *sigh* From now own I build my OWN computers...
The sad thing is, I can even cannibalize my comp, because, although the processer is plenty fast enough for these days, it uses the outdated 478 socket, and there are literally NO mobos in existence that have that processor slot and PCIe. Maybe a few with AGP though.

So what PCI card (NOT PCI Express) with Pixel Shader (for T3) is there ?
All I see are PCI-exp cards listed here, or cards that don't mention pixel shader.
I havent seen a PCI card in the shops since 2002 when I bought mine - and that was in the same week that PC World were taking them off the shelves forever.

Try to find a 6800 if you can. I had a 5200 for around two years and while it did run the game...a 6800 is considerably lower in price these days. Save up a few more dollars and see if you can find a PCI 6800.

The idea of that mobo is wonderful, but the review on that page says it doesn't work.
If I find a custom mobo with PCIe and socket 478... I'm snapping it up.
You know, that Geforce 6200 PCI card is $90... a PCIe equivilant is $30. *sigh* A new mobo + that would be cheaper than a single PCI one.
