the only thing that would be worse in my opinion would be if the water crystal were replaced by a certain battery operated marital aid ... well clockwork instead of battery given the steampunk setting

Garrett or no I will be reading reviews in magazines and on boards like this, and if there is a demo available I'll certainly be playing that before making a purchasing decision
if those reviews and demos are good and Garrett is the main protagonist I'll be joining the queue of happy taffers for a brand spanking new full priced version at the earliest opportunity, I may even buy more than one so I have a backup copy
if those reviews and demos are good and Garrett isn't the main protagonist or isn't in it I may join the queues of happy taffers or I may wait until I spot it in a bargain bin, it depends on how good the demo is or how rave the reviews from people I trust are
if the reviews are mostly complaints, the demo is crap but Garrett is the main protagonist then it will probably be bargain bin time at a much later date

so it depends on a few things I won't be going and buying it just for the sake of completeness

That pretty much resembles my stance--with the one issue of not having a system to play it on--but that's about where I am on the matter.
