It's not worth refusing to play Thief just because Garrett isn't the protagonist, still I definitely want him back.

I'd like him back, but honestly I guess I would understand if EM chose to go with a new character just so that EVERYONE who plays the game is starting out at the same level of knowing the character. I certainly won't protest or throw a fit.

If EM wants to make a stealth game without Garrett, I am all for it and I would probably buy it. But don't call it Thief. It won't be. If it is truly going to be a continuation of Thief, it needs to have Garrett.

Garrett and his attitude really makes the game what it is for me, so if there is no Garrett then I will not likely bother buying a copy. It would be like playing Half-Life without Gordon Freeman, or Tomb Raider without Lara Croft, or Pac-Man without Pac-Man....

There are other options when someone does not like to buy a game.
For example could rent it for a very low price just to play it and finish it.
If there is no Garrett as the protagonist then I will not
buy the game but this does not mean that I will not play it.
I believe that at the end too many people will just rent it or download a pirate copy if the game will have no editor or Garrett and generally if the game fail to reproduce the core elements that made it sell in the past.
edit: The editor is a core element.

I'll be disappointed if Garrett is the protagonist.
Given his arc throughout the games, and where he ended up at the end of Thief 3, him going back to breaking and entering makes no goddamn sense whatsoever. The only way you could reasonably have him as the player character is by making it a prequel. Which could work, I guess. They'd have to resist the temptations to top the other games in terms of having an epic story though.
New, equally interesting main character, please.

I've been waiting for this game for how many years, and now I'm gonna refuse to play it because I don't like a certain detail? Unlikely.
