Talk to me then.
One of the things that ruined the tension in Dishonored, something that the first 3 Thief games had in spades, was a lack of constraint. In Thief, you were actually rather limited in what you could do. You had tools to help you get around, but they were limited in numbers. You only had so many rope arrows at your disposal, and because of that, you had to make a calculated decision on when to use them. In Dishonored, all your movement tools were based around a mana meter, which would recharge back to full so long as you waited a tiny bit between uses. That allowed you to get around so much more quickly and easily in comparison to Thief.
The environments themselves were just as large, complicated, and non linear as anything you'd see in Thief. In fact, I don't think any of the missions in the first two Thiefs came close to approaching the size and scope of the three missions in The Brigmore Witches DLC.
So Dishonored constrained you to the environment? I'd say the biggest problem with the game is that it didn't constrain you enough.
I like the challenge; the having to have confidence in your decision with the object limitations in Thief you had to have just that.
To me at least in thief 2 and thief 3 I had to analyze my situation much more in the games environment; in Dishonored I could just keep using the mana and replenishing it.
Thief 2 would not have the scope and should not have the size and scope its a much older game, if Dishonored had the same amount of size and scope; that would be a sign that innovation had left that company.
Dare I say the character(s) that we interact through our environment in the games like Dishonored are over powered now?

Yeah, in some games I'd say they are.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Dishonored, but it wasn't a difficult game unless you imposed restrictions upon yourself. Even in the worst situations, you never felt like you were in any real danger. The number of tools and powers you had always meant you always had some means of a quick, easy escape. The two DLC packs improved things a bit in this regard, but even with all the clever changes meant to make the game more challenging, it never quite reached the levels of tension that came standard in every mission in Thief.
As for the scope and scale of the levels, I'd actually give the award to better level design to Dishonored. There are all kinds of nooks and crannies to explore in that game, and it can, at times, offer up maps that are considerably more complex and interesting. If it were just a little more difficult, and did more with sound propagation, I'd say it would've been a better overall stealth game than even Thief. As is, I wouldn't say it's dumbed down for the casuals (I'm really starting to hate that word), because it's anything but. It can be a very complicated game. The only problem it has that Arkane went a little too crazy enabling the player.
Also, if you want an unforgivably difficult game that requires your utmost attention to everything around you 100% of the time...insert obligatory Dark Souls reference here.
