hey all, i know there are a ton of these threads already but it seems everyone has a different problem!
anyway, i just clean installed thief 2, and it wont even start. i click the thief.exe icon, the screen of Garrett with his bow pops up while loading then it disappears and I wait for the menu to show or the inro movie to start. nothing!
anway, i tried installing the T2PremierPatch107-118.exe, but it gets rid of "thief2.icd" and since i have hyperthreading, i can't follow Salvage's guide in the FAQ to fix it
here's some info on my comp:
P4 3.0 GHz
WinXp Profession Service Pack 1
1 Gig RAM
on board video (dell optiplex GX280)
ok, i installed service pack 2. now i get a 'thief 2 has encounter a problem and needs to close' message after the exact same thing as above happens.

Maybe it is the codec problem that happens when a cutscene is played on XP. I seem to remember someone posting a fixed installer of the codecs somewhere around here.

One thing I'd suggest is reinstalling it after you upgrade to SP2- otherwise it can mess with existing installations. Can't think of much else... you could try compatibility mode but I don't think many people have needed to do that to get it to work, and most of the time the codec issue only results in the movies not playing.
EDIT: Also, have you tried the non-'Premier' 1.07-1.18 patch? It is only meant for certain releases of Thief 2 (I believe), and there is another smaller 1.07-1.18 patch that may work better with your copy. That's all I can think of at the moment.

ah, you're right! i had used the premier patch last time, because i had CD problems at that time. anyway, a reinstall has the game working fine now, except for the movies playing ingame, i have to hit esc or the game just waits showing a black screen.
