For what reason would you ever need 8GB RAM?
For the same reason I bought a quad-core CPU: future-proofing, dear boy*.

Unless you're doing a lot of graphics work or video encoding, it's certainly never going to be of much use in a gaming machine.
That all depends on what else I have running while I'm gaming, don't you think?
ATI, do or die! I have a 4850 now and when the the DirectX 11 5800s come out I'll get one of those (I was just weighing 4870s vs 4890s when I read about the pending release :erg:).
*As much as that is possible, which, speaking as a former Socket 939 loyalist, isn't much. Hopefully my quad will be able to hang in longer.

ATIs are like London buses.

They have open roof?
They can use special lanes?

Some bend in the middle but Boris Johnson should be getting rid of 'em?

:Picard: What kind of dropkick runs resource hungry tasks in the background playing modern games?
I'm a power user. Nvidia drivers
natively let me have custom profiles for each and every game that I have installed. No need to have 3rd party tools.
The Nvidia driver team are quick to release optimised drivers for the majority of the new release games, sometimes releasing several STABLE beta drivers within days of each other. Unlike with ATI you're often left twiddling your thumbs whilst waiting weeks for the likes of Crossfire profiles to fixed.
I knowingly spent a little more coin to get a GTX275 over a HD4890 specifically for such reasons, the superior software support goes a long way further in my books.

There will always be another one right along any second.

Okay, so you guys have talked me into switching to x64 when I leave the RC. I have 4 GB of RAM and a 1GB graphics card, so it should be worthwhile. My question: does it have issues with older games?
If I'd know that x64 had made the advances it did, I probably would have got 6 gigs of RAM. I suppose I can always upgrade if I find it necessary!

They're huge, red, and have bad drivers.

I mentioned that angle on another forum and got ripped a new one. I agree with you completely. I've been thinking that NV may have patented that auto-activating game profile software and that's why ATI has never implemented it.
