Hello,
(I had a quick luck but couldn't find any relevant threads - if there is then can you point me to its location. Cheers)
As a matter of interest, I was wondering what features for Thief 4 would be most important to people. The last game received a lot of flak for its bright highlighting of objects (e.g. doors, loot) which kind of spoiled the immersion a little. Also, the 3rd person viewpoint seemed to be dispised.
So, I was wondering if there were other major things that were bad (or good) or any new things that people would like to see.
Cheers.

Basically we would like to see all the features that are implemented currently in The Dark Mod. :p

Ugh. No. Garrett is a thief, not an acrobat... The rope arrows from thief I were fine.
Stuff I'd like to see:
- The same kind of ability to explore the city, but this time, being able to go into the water would be nice. Also, a lot more attention should be paid to the detail this time.
- If Garrett is still in the game, do NOT show Garrett's face. Ever. Not in the cutscenes, not in the game. While I'm on the subject of the main character, the girl he recruited at the end of T3 might be a good choice for T4.
- A better balance between machines and monsters. In thief I, there were monsters, monsters, monsters, and more monsters. In thief II, same thing, but with machines...
- ERIC BROSSIUS!

they show his face at least twice in thief 1 (first and second cutscenes) and a third time in thief gold (mage towers briefing)- in fact, we see his full face. and i'm sure there's a couple more that i'm forgetting.
we see his face a couple of times in thief 2 as well.
why break precedent?
of course, i wouldn't want to see garrett in thief 4, not as the player character anyway. his job is done.

I wonder what an open-ended, customizable character scheme would be like in a Thief game.

Definitely not.

I don't want too much to be revealed. New questions are great; I wouldn't want too many new answers. It's nice to leave something to the imagination. (Keep in mind I haven't played Thief 3, so I don't know what that might reveal.)
I'd like to see Garrett retired too. I'd love a Thief game set in the future or past of the City (or even elsewhere); it would be pretty exciting to start anew in a radically different setting, after Garrett's become so familiar to all of us. I wouldn't mind a "spiritual successor" either.
Finally, it's nice to deal with the people on top, but I'd like to see some more of the people on the lowest rungs of the social ladder.

Make that into 'maybe'. Since this is a community project there is no 'definitely not'. :)
Personally I would love to see swinging rope arrows.

I wouldn't. I was just making a ridiculous request. :p I mean, sure, it could be good, but the Thief rope arrows were excellent because they were predictable. Flailing everywhere as soon as you land on the rope can only spell disaster.
