Just finished it. A truly awesome game... I'm already looking forward to replaying it. The effects of your choices *really* become apparent later on.

I hope they do a collectors-ed for the 360, complete with a Witcher medallion that vibrates when you are approaching RROD.

The game is pretty cool (well, i like the lore at least) but it's extremely annoying that the character can't fall/jump off places or even swim across a small river.. I mean he's supposed to be this agile hero with all kinds of cool moves, but the simplest obstacle he can't cross or even jump down from?
The combat is also really weak in this game, it's not immersive one bit, what's the fun in looking at an icon the whole fight, i'd rather just be immersed in the fight itself instead (Gothic1-2 style), it doesnt really feel like i'm controll of the moves he's doing. It's just as bad as those MMORPG's where you have to keep track of your different "cool downs" on the icons, it's not like you ever really see the fight, you just look at icons. I have icons on my desktop, and you know what? They're actualy not that fun to look at.
I waited for the EE, but now i'm seriously thinking of waiting for the 360 version since it's supposed to have a new engine and better combat.

You know you can watch the sword strokes right? The last one, where you should click, has an orange trail and which is also the only option on hard where the icon highlighting is disabled. A nice touch I thought. Anyway after a while you start to get the combos down and can chain them together quite easily and target different enemies with each attack.

yes, but the whole idea of "click at the right time and it will trigger the move you need" is bad game design and only brings back horrible memories of "Dragon's Lair". I also really dislike the auto-combat in WoW and other MMORPG's or the automated feel in Assasins Creed.. I like games where it feels like i'm the character and are in controll of the character's moves.

i thought it was a perfect trade-off providing you at least with good animations during the fights. the depth came from on-the-fly stance/sign changes and inbetween healing/potion drinking (or not). I concentrated much more on movement/positioning to enemies. They could add more to it over time but a 3rd person perspective doesn't work for me in action games so I was actually glad they did not spend much time on parries/combos/quicktime events during fights.

Devs should just copy the combat from Blade of Darkness and improve it a bit for The Witcher 2.
Rebel Act's (RIP) way was very satisfying and the weakest link was the player, not statistics. Compare Sargon the Knight from BoD to Geralt to get an idea how it would work :).

I may be old fashioned, but my opinion on this is: If you don't like statistics based combat, don't play an RPG.
