Well, for me the main character having a good voice-over is a considerable immersion creator. That´s one of the main points (amongst others) why I like the Gothic series over the Elder Scrolls series: a predefined character with a distinctive voice and his own history.
The whole "create and shape your own character" just seems to not work for me as well. Although I really enjoyed Bloodlines, featuring a mute main character with some customization choices. So good voice acting isn´t all but definitly a big point.
I guess it´s like the 3rd person vs 1st person view discussion, it´s different for everybody.
I think there was a thread where one of the TTLG members collected data for his diploma thesis or something trying to find out what made people identify themselves with the main character and getting immersed in games.
Anyways, just wanted to emphasize that they really put hard work into "internationalization" of their product (even releasing an "Enhanced Edition" with improved voice-overs and different voice actors for free), which can´t be taken for granted.

True, it's very much a matter of personal taste. I like the characters I play to be either well developed with plenty of personality (Garrett, for instance) or then to be complete cyphers, to be filled with personality by me (Gordon Freeman or the Avatar in the Ultima games), and in the latter case I'm happy without voice acting, and sometimes without fully written lines. The Avatar's NAME, JOB, BYE meant that I could imagine myself what the character would say.
Too many games go for something in between, more often than not because the people writing for games only manage to come up with copies of copies of copies.

don't forget Flash's "flash mod" or just released "FCR" full combat rebalance mods for the real witchers :)
I replayed the Witcher on Insane using the flash mod and the combat (potions, sword style and tactics) change considerably. no more perma-stunning of enemies. prepare to dodge, run, jump, weave in and out of fights and pause to take in potions many times to kill your enemies. For the Azar Javed Fight I had a total of 6 potions active, was so drunk I could hardly stand and needed the mutagen talent to get additional bonuses for being poisoned by too many potions as well. it was awesome. it also caps off level and talent advancement for more specializations and kills the need to grind.
FCR makes the whole thing even more diverse (you don't have to play on insane, there are 3 additional diff. modes) with completely reworked stats:

So... I wonder...
Does that mean you first have to install the DRM, along with the game, and then
afterwards apply the patch, which then what...? Uninstalls the installed DRM?
If it works like that I will pass. And wait for a release that has no DRM to begin with.

I installed the game for the first time (I've had the DVD for a while but wanted to wait with playing it until patch 1.5) over the weekend. Turns out I got one of the European versions sans manual. There is a PDF manual on the DVD, but it doesn't have the registration number.
And without registration number I cannot install the Extended Edition.
I'm hoping that Atari can help me get a registration number (probably in exchange for proof that I've got the game), but I'm not holding my breath. What a stupid, stupid decision on their part not to include the registration key... :weird::grr:

Assuming it's the same Euro version as mine you ought to have a flimsy sheet box insert with the serial on it (big 'The Witcher' Title up the top, random rambling in the middle, serial at the bottom). Unfortunately it's extremely easy to lose as, typical Atari, it doesn't even fit the box properly and falls out every time it's opened.
Good luck with getting a new serial from Atari, I think they're sharing Herve Caen's basement with Interplay at the moment. If you can't, you might be able to get one off someone who bought the EE as well as the standard version.

Aw crap. It's very well possible I lost that sheet box insert; at least the only thing currently in the box (other than the DVD and a music CD) is a leaflet telling me where the PDF manual can be found on the disk.
If there's any kind soul reading this who has two version of the game and would be willing to do as Zygoptera suggests, I'd be grateful for a PM. I know it's a lot to ask for, though. (Atari hasn't replied yet, other than the automated "We'll get back to you... eventually".)
