if i create the spell casting weapon in the cauldron, the thieves are robbing the bank and the mission failes.
what can i do ?

The mission shouldn't fail because the thieves rob the bank. After the mission fails, look at your objectives screen. Is there a failed objective listed there?

Did you kill any of them? It is more likely failing on the "no kill" portion of that objective. If you did not kill anyone, then that is a bug.

Is it possible that one of the ones you blackjacked died somehow? Could you send me a save from just before the thieves rob the bank. Or just before you use the cauldron.

I don't think it's very linear, but there are certainly things that must be done before other things can be accomplished. And you do need to do a bit of exploring before things become clear. Have you found the secret room in the thieves' house? If not, look outside along the wall for some vines.
