Friend of mine picked up the latest COD game today and had the pleasure of giving it a few hours of play tonight.
The coop is pretty fun. The screens are separated in a rather strange fashion and there's really no teamwork to be had, except you have another set of rounds to defeat the enemy with. The multiplayer is, essentially, COD4 with WWII guns (which is a good thing). The one thing that really irks me however is that weapon loadout in multiplayer. Germans can use Japanese weapons. Germans use American weapons. It feels strange. I'm not sure how they could have fixed this without losing the appeal of the "create-a-class" system from Modern Warfare, but it still bothers me.
The campaign is pretty stunning, both visually and gameplay-wise. The flamethrower is badass, the gore is *Finally* at a reasonable level (dismemberment, severe burns, etc), and the missions are reasonably fresh and sometimes innovative.
Haven't tried the much hyped "zombie" mode yet, and still have much of the multiplayer and campaign to see, but so far I'd say Treyarch have done Infinity Ward proud.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you using VoIP during your co-op sessions? Ta.
I'm currently playing through Treyarch's last stab at the franchise, CoD3 on 360 and it's average at best, certainly not terrible. The level design is extremely linear compared to the CoD2 demo that I played and I'm not a huge fan of the occasional quick time events. PC gamers didn't miss out on much with CoD3. Certainly a decent of number of the same assets that I saw and heard from the CoD2 demo are present.

Oh, I totally agree. I had to explain to my console-tard buddy just how saturated the market was and has been with WWII shooters. But, I will give COD5 this: it's done the pacific theater justice, something that few games have attempted and pulled off.
But for the love of Fuck, they need to stop putting so much profanity in these World War II games, they simply did not curse as much as they do in these games.

I thought CoD3 (for XBOX, not 360) was good fun. I liked CoD 2:Big Red 1 enough, but 3 was even better. The multiplayer on XBOX live was some of the best, IMHO.

This point can't be argued in regards to Brothers in Arms, since that series strives for authenticity.
