I just started on TDS and have been studiously avoiding the spoilers -- but dammit, now I don't know whether I should be looking forward to The Cradle or ph33r1ng it.
Soulforge. Hated, hated, hated it! Long, tedious, grabbing the parts from here, shoving them in there, bringing the completed thingy o'er yon... And Karras not shutting the HELL UP! God, he was irritating. Stephen Russell (voiced both Garrett and Karras) is clearly one of the great voice actors of our time, otherwise it wouldn't have been so effective: Karras is supposed to be irritating, and he succeeds in a spectacular way. But I didn't enjoy it.

I don't know if you're making two separate comments or relating them.
Assuming you are hoping the Cradle's not like Soulforge...don't worry. It isn't. You have to find, collect, and use items in a specific place, but there's no tedious assembly. Just tension and creepiness.:ebil:

Don't worry, it's not like Soulforge. Also, it's an experience every gamer should go through at least once. Some of us are not willing to do it again, but that's not because the mission sucks. :cheeky: It doesn't, it's actually one of the best efforts in level design ever.
And keep avoiding those spoilers!

2 separate comments. I gathered from how people have been talking about it that Cradle was extremely creepy. But there's good creepy (in terms of story value) and bad creepy (gratuitously disturbing content) and I can't tell which is meant. It could be either, since that kind of material isn't to everyone's taste even when its well done.

The Cradle is not gratuitously creepy, I can assure you, and the tasks are nothing like Soulforge. The buildup of tension is phenomenal, and the mission's importance to the overall story is very significant.

Good. Deadly Shadows isn't creeping me out half as much as Dark Project or TMA is. I'm at the Kurshok citadel at the moment, it's fun but i can't help feeling that the missions are easier than the city sections.

I really don't like the Bonehoard level. Not for the usual rant that people give about it being too much of a tomb raider experience or being too supernatural, I just hated navigating through the place. Especially the Burrick caves. That and the crypt full of zombies. Just not my cup of tea.

I like most of Thief´s mission, with some notable exceptions...
1. SOULFORGE - insanely large and difficult.
2. Thieves Guild - Ugly maze level.

Worst one for me? Has to be the Thieves' Guild. First run-thru just pissed me off. That and Soulforge... Sure, it was huge as hell, but a major annoyance more than anything.
Absolute favorite missions? Thats a 3 way battle to the death!
Life of the Party
The Cradle
Ambush!
LotP because its just fuckin huge, feels like a big breath 'o' fresh air. The Cradle because I love having to stop drinking Dr. Pepper whilst playing that mission, for fear of losing a keyboard or monitor, takes a lot to spook me. And Ambush! just because I love the whole "Zomfg, I'm out of equipment and I hafta either sneak past or plow through billions of 'Teh Pwn' brand Guard Units ta get mah stash and get the fuck outta here!!!"
Mikael Grizzly on 29/9/2007 at 07:10
I remember the last part of the "Ambush!".
I was in a point where I couldn't get past the guards unseen and was out of flashbombs. What did ol' Mikey do? Gobble down a speed potion and put those taffin' legs to good use. Of course about ten to twenty guards gave chase, but thankfully dem locks don't give much in the way of resistance, and with the blueshirts breathing down my neck I managed to barge through the door and run down the cobbled streets to Shalebridge.
And get away by jumping off the bridge into the river. After an entire mission of swimming in canals and sewage, it can't get much worse, now, can it?
