Because with a straight eye genitalia look like radioactive vegetables from Mars.
So
that's what the Mars Rover really discovered? No wonder they made up the story about only finding carbon.

Any any rate, if everyone got a veto on other people's behaviors because they didn't want to see something, there would be literally nothing anybody could ever do. There's always someone who will be offended.
The difference between this and other behaviours is naked bodies are involved in primal biological responses and so our reaction to them is not simply a matter of preference.
I liken it to your choice of clothes, when you wear them; fluffy jumper - your choice, jacket of nails - anti-social.
Sex is a very personal issue and I just don't want to have to test my preferences and visceral responses all the time. Yeah, you can argue that bikinis, short skirts, tight yoga pants etc do the same thing but there is still an element of modesty in all these cases.

Those responses are triggered by lots of other things beside naked genitalia; eyes and the direction of gaze, lips, movement, tone of voice, body odour etc. In fact, I'd guess for humans all that other stuff is even more of a turn on than just staring at a penis or a vagina. I know some people who go to naturist happenings, and they say there's no sexual vibe whatsoever - at least not any more than in places where people wear clothes.

yeh i would rather stare at some stupendous tits than a floppy squishmitten. Having said that, i still like vaginas, but from a more functional than aesthetic viewpoint.
penis looks like baby jesus!

Exactly.
Its not a turn on if it doesn't turn you on. But its not a null either. If it isn't pleasant for you to look at its likely to be nausea inducing unless you're a naturist and used to that sort of thing. Even naturists must admit that their first time at a "happening" probably involved some feelings of excitement or revulsion.

Thing you didn't want to know about Thirith: I very much like being naked and especially feeling the sun on my skin - not just select parts but all of it. Having said that, though, a) I don't have an exhibitionist bone in my body (...) and b) doing anything with naturists is one of the last things I'd do. I absolutely understand the impulse of someone who might want to hike naked (although I wouldn't want to think about the risk of sunburn...), but unless I could ensure that there isn't anyone else there at the same time likely to see me or wave his or her bits at me there's no chance in hell I'd actually do it.

Of course, just like any other cultural shock when you're out of your normative comfort zone.

But you do know naturism isn't the same thing as exhibitionism, right? :)

So I've heard, but nobody complains when you're naked in private.

I don't know what you are saying here. Is this some sort of validation?
