A trailer featuring what appears to be an older and gruffer Stephen Russell was posted by Triangle Tooth:

This begs the question, would you be interested in a Thief game featuring an older, middle aged Garrett? A la MGSIV?
Garrett's cynicism would obviously be going through the roof by this time. And whether or not he still had the skills and the stamina would be questioned. Would our favorite taffer still have it in middle age? :thumb:

All I can say is, yay! No Erin in the video! I was expecting it in the scene with the crows as in the game and was pleasantly surprised with awesomeness. In Thief 2014, I wish Garrett could have broken out of windows, would've saved me all that button mashing getting them open ;)
Edit: I see old (cannon) Garrett's cynicism as being one of his key features. If they did a new old Garrett, as long as it wasn't over the top - it couldn't hurt.
I don't really see them going anywhere else with the game at the moment, but it would be cool with me if they jumped into an Erin-less future with an old Garrett and made another game with better audio. That's asking a lot, I know.

Agreed. Garrett was always a loner, and I don't see him hanging around anyone for too long. Like Jack Burton said, "Sooner or later I rub everyone the wrong way," and I definitely get that vibe from Garrett.

NO IT DOESN'T.

The dialogue in that trailer was especially bad. Stephen Russell probably quit the job after seeing the corny lines they were having him read. I don't think I've ever felt embarrassed for a writer before.
In regards to the original question, it would be an interesting way to go but I like the way the original trilogy wraps up Garrett's character.

Yeah I think that they should've just ended the series in TDS because there's really not anymore keeper prophecies and all of the glyphs are gone. It was a great ending though and they really shouldn't have made the "Reboot" because it's too boring and it sucks how there are no factions anymore :(

I thought Garrett was already middle-aged in the old games. Real shame that they didn't keep Stephen Russell for that role, though, and opted to use some new (mocap maybe) technology that almost no one really notices or cares about just to bring a new voice actor in. He could still do the voice at the time that trailer was recorded, for sure.

Interesting. I always pictured him in his 30s. I figure he left the keepers in his teens and that about 15 years or so had passed between that time and Bafford's. Obviously a few years pass between games, so maybe 40s by Deadly Shadows' time?
I certainly never imagined him in his twenties though. I wonder what age LGS intended him to be?

Yes I thought he was in his mid-30s at the very least in the first couple games. The art, cutscene presentations and his in-game model definitely look it. In TDS cutscenes (not the hideous ingame model but the cutscene Garrett that looks like the one from the depictions in the first two games) you could probably place him somewhere between his late 30s and mid 40s in how he looks. You'd also have to figure that Keeper Artemus is a pretty old bald guy at the time of TDS and he's the one who found and brought Garrett in to the keepers when Garrett was a small child. Kind of all makes sense.
