(

I'm thinking the WGA entry eligibility criteria needs to be rethought if Fallout 3 can make it onto the short list of nominess for best writing. It's fantastic that 'Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble!' made it on there but there are plenty of notable omissions. For me those would be GTA4 and Left 4 Dead. Anybody have any other favourites from last year?
Is anyone aware of exactly what the criteria are to be nominated? I know you have to be a member of the WGA, you also need clear writing credits and I've heard that the writing that is judged is the script/screenplay of the game, so things like wall scibblings in 'Left 4 Dead and GTA4's radio broadcasts are not counted.

Dead Space and L4D.

It's absolutely criminal that they haven't nominated Need for Speed: Undercover and Gears of War 2.

If Gears of War 2 gets nominated and then somehow manages to WIN, then I quit. I quit forever. I will just STOP WRITING and go into, fuck I dunno, marine biology.

Oh my, you do realise that I was being sarcastic? NFS:UC and GoW2 have some of the poorest writing in recent gaming history.

I do realize you were being sarcastic. And I'm saying that if GoW2 did get in and win I think I'd probably end up throwing myself off a bridge because my entire basis for my choice of career path will be dead.

It's not like there's anything integrity in professional American gaming journalism anyway, what with all the corruption and bribery.

Which is exactly why people with integrity enter these sorts of fields, so they can bring some of that integrity back.
Naive, I know, but damn it let me be idealistic for once.

Are you referring to the billions of dollars in free lunches thrown by lobbyists for Gamespot in order to ensure Crysis gets a 9.5?

It's not like there's any integrity to gaming journalism elsewhere either. The last honest reviews in Hungary I read were in Commodore World, an early 1990s mag: they pirated their games like everyone else at the time, and had no incentive whatsoever not to tell the truth as they saw it. :laff:
