Quick! Apparently (
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14821192) you have 50 days to register your name or anyjumbleofletters on ICM list in order to avoid it "hijacked" by sexmongers.
Well, if you have a company or are a celeb, that is.
It has all the makings of an unholy, hilarious mess. How do you prove you are a celebrity for example? Can dethtoll apply? Also looking forward to crazy ingenuity of the porn industry - their versions of film titles of Hollywood blockbusters are pure genius after all.
On technical note: why isn`t it actually possible to do whatever with the .??? suffix? Would it break the Internet or something?

What a scam!
Sort of like the phone company promising not to distribute your name and phone number unless you pay them protection money... I mean, for an unlisted number.

Well played sir. For a moment I thought you actually paid the fee :)

Once there's an XXX TLD it's not gonna take too long before some bright head demands that adult content should only be available from these domains, because Think of the cildren!!
Next an ever increasing number of corporate&gov networks/ISPs/filtering software/etc will block XXX TLDs, which will force adult content providers to use other TLDs again.
There are a number of points where interested parties could gain huge profits from the porn industry while appearing to fight it during this foreseeable process.

Wait. Why is it I don't want my name hijacked by sexmongers again?
Matthew on 10/9/2011 at 11:09
It stops you being the sexmonger?
