It's being brought to us by 2K Marin & Australia and... it's a first person shooter!

Not like i expected them to actually invest time and money and make worthy x-com turn based game, though it's a console shooter so i guess ttlg will like it.
also suspenseful storytelling :laff:

X-Com, the classic 90's turn-based strategy game pitting mankind against alien invaders, is set to make a comeback as a first-person shooter
Fail.

I don't even care about X-Com and this is stupid.

the 2K buttrape monster continues to swallow properties and convert them into the most profitable genre out there, the fps, without having any connection to the original gameplay and genre, using its brandname for sales and the angry internet men rage for publicity.
I bet Elizabeth Tobey is ringing up her therapist right now to schedule more sessions, she knows what will come: endless apology and clarification letters

To think that they could've given this property to Firaxis, who've had some success making management strategy games on consoles with Civ Revolution.
Honestly though, is there even an audience for turn-based strategy games any more outside of masochists who like to play Jagged Alliance 2 mods? You can't really blame them for this decision to change the genre. They couldn't have turned it into a RTT game either because that genre is fail with a gamepad.

I'd rather have an xbla-style release (for pc as well) with a smaller budget. King's Bounty proved that there is a market for this kind of game. X-COM sales at steam and other sites show there is still interest for them. I think if they had rethought the whole "AAAAAAAAA" blockbuster until it hurts mentality we could have gotten an excellent turned-based X-COM with an UI overhaul and an open modding platform for a longer shelflife and enough hype and interest that they could have released their FPS-thingy later. but, well, yeah, maybe it'll be a good shooter like Bioshock2 was a good shooter, they just should drop the brand, make a new one, this is just ridiculous.

This is good news. Liked masterfully crafted shooters from 2K Marin more anyway than fucking boring strategy games.

I like masterfully crafted stuff better than fucking boring stuff too. Everyone does. Stop trolling.
The fact that you don't like a particular genre doesn't make it a good idea to start venting your inability to see the merits of it.
X-com is generally seen as a great example of turn-based strategy. The announcement of another X-com game is sure to catch the interest of fans of the franchise. The announcement that it'll be a game using a completely different game mechanic is asking for disappointed fans.
I'm with Eva on this one. Firaxis' conversion of Civ is very good (the iPhone version at least), and X-com's original game mechanic is not that different.
Apart from 'there will be aliens invading the earth' an X-Com FPS has nothing to base its game play on.
