To irritate you since you're a closet NMA member.
I'm very open about my BLARGARGLEFLARK factor thankyouverymuch.
To be honest, while I agree with a lot of their sentiments in regards Fallout, the average poster on the forums at NMA is completely out of touch with the rest of gaming. Some of the stuff I read in their General Gaming forum is, quite frankly, embarrassingly uninformed and completely naive. That's why I hang out more over here and at Q3W.

I'm just giving you shit for laughs, man, work with me here ;)
But yeah the NMA crowd... that story about the guy who beat his exasperated girlfriend for suggesting he just try Fallout 3 out before declaring he hated it and NMA cheering him on never fails to horrify people.
But one of my favourite NMA moments is the time they spent 4 pages arguing over what a former FO1 dev meant when he said he liked Fallout 3.

exasperated girlfriend
I'll believe that if you replace 'girlfriend' with 'life-size cut out of Summer Glau with Sheriff Marcus's face taped over it'.

... that is a hilarious mental image.
By hilarious I mean terrifying.

I may have to rethink my vow to steer clear of that place.

It's being developed in Canberra. Apparently 2K Australia was absorbed by 2K Marin and renamed accordingly. Honestly WTF, why adopt the name of a city in Massachusetts if your studio is on the other side of the globe in Aussie?
Because of Bioshock- for better or worse the only two studio names associated with it are 2k Boston- now defunct name wise- and 2k Marin which still exists and made the last Bioshock released. Personally I cannot imagine generic 2k [placename] studio names having any cachet, but I'd put money on that being the reason.

You'll make a great journalist: the person who said that had 38 posts, most made in that very thread about some guy who worked at Gamespy wishing that all Fallout fans would get a disease and die (probably not a
serious wish, of course, but you can never tell with those rabid fanboys and zealots at Gamespy with their bizarre genocidal urges)
and admitted he was trolling when he said it. Reactions included getting publicly warned by a mod, getting told that domestic violence is not a laughing matter being told that hitting girls isn't cool etc etc.
I'll leave some blank space at the bottom of my post for your apology. If you plan on being a journalist yet have that quality of research then you will need the practice.

I got it from TV Tropes, thank you.
Besides. You and I both know there are Fallout fans like that who aren't trolling.
Zygoptera on 23/4/2010 at 23:37
I'm of the opinion there are- sadly- fans of just about anything that think that way and aren't trolling. I've yet to see anyone want to launch a cyberjihad because someone else likes custard or the colour puce, but I wouldn't be overly surprised to see it.

To go with what Zygoptera's saying, this place can be as batshit mental as NMA when it comes to any given Looking Glass legacy title. Why do you think I rarely stray out of Gen Gaming?
june gloom on 24/4/2010 at 07:15
I take heart in the fact that outside of ThiefGen and those dour fucks in DXgen, at least a sizable majority of us are not quite as out of touch with, well, everything in the last ten years as NMA are.
