Don`t backtrack man, if you say that some vague trailer makes you more interested than the seminal original means simply you never had time for it in the first place - or didn`t recognize it as seminal.
I didn't backtrack. I said it looks far more interesting than the original, which probably makes sense since I enjoy tactical shooters with planning elements more than turn based strategy. What I didn't say is that I dislike X-Com. I wouldn't call it seminal, but I'm not one of those assholes who thinks my opinion is law. I am one of those assholes who thinks it's entertaining whenever people get butthurt because someone makes a game that doesn't meet their expectations, though. I guess I should go start an OMG BIA 4 IS A TRAVESTY!!!111 thread.

i disagree on the `seminal` bit, but fair enough.
The butthurting angle was totally unnecessary though - like I said in the original post I`m also interested in this new XCOM. I`m not a canon - freak...was through this, luckily brief, stage quite a while ago.

Tarantino in Arms could be shit loads of fun, if executed properly. We've yet to really have a WW2 FPS that was like The Dirty Dozen.

Hmmm ... If I had a penny for every clone X Com clone that totally failed... ;) Good luck nevertheless.
For fans of MrGollop himself: a crazy thing but he actually designed new Rainbow Six game for 3DS...and it`s a turn based strategy. I`m sold ;)

I loved UFO: Extraterrestrials and UFO:After[x] series. They're not X-COM, but they press a lot of the right buttons. In fact, I'm going to install UFO:Afterlight again. Don't try and stop me, because you can't.

Looks like the "command" interface is heavily influenced by Mass Effect. And that's no bad thing. The story might be hard to keep track of without a narrator though. Like, how are you supposed to realize that that's Dr Weir and that you're supposed to go into the portal at the end?
Anyway, overall it looks really good. :)
EvaUnit02 on 27/8/2011 at 12:43
It still looks like Tom Clancy's Bioshock vs. Tron to me.
Sure, it seems a lot better and far more unique than your average CoD clone, but it just ain't X-Com.

Linear level design is linear? Anyway it's of the Bioshock lineage, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a massive quest arrow directing your path.

Complaining about the goddamn quest arrow in BioShock is like complaining that easy difficulty is easy. Turn the fucking thing off and get over it.
