So it's out, and despite looking nice the advance word isn't very good.
Despite only having one ship it sounded like the more accessible X game I at least had been waiting for. The nearest thing to a FreelancerPlus until the Limit Theories and Elites get finished. But based on what people are saying it seems like they changed just enough things to annoy everyone.
I suspect I'll be holding out until the inevitable slew of patches appears.
Anyone tried it yet?

I've been watching videos since the release, but I wasn't going to think about touching it until patches come out & general opinion it happy with the results. I like Albion Prelude. I like sims generally, and I like having lots of depth to dig into, and can appreciate a game that lets me get into it & slow-play through it (cf Dwarf Fortress & Victoria 2. I can recognize that I'm not with the mainstream on this...).
So I didn't necessarily need the accessibility, but I wouldn't mind it either, especially if it delivers on what it promises, like better flow. But I'm not liking the reports coming out ... except it looks beautiful, and the FPS parts *could* be cool if they'd played it better than they have. But yeah, I'll come back in a few months & see what people are saying then. I'm fine with X3:AP for a while yet, anyway, the way I slow play these kinds of games...

I played X2 for a bit and would like to revisit, but it felt like would need MMORPG levels of time committment to get the really cool rewards, like large warships.
So a more accessible installment in the series does sound tempting.

Yeh I had hopes for this as well, played some of X:Terran Conflict but it was too slow and unwieldy for my tastes. Quite a few space games in dev at the moment though, hopefully one of em will come through with the goods. And by goods I mean pretty much a reboot of FFE with proper combat. NO ONLINE
