I've just been linked this on another forum, supposedly as a good and well reasoned argument as to why the XBox 360 is the superior gaming platform.

Inside - such gems as mods being bad (I don't think he knows what a mod is), PC graphics being inferior because it's down to your monitor, the "fact" that no-one can name a "good" PC CoD player, PS3s free online gaming service meaning you get loads of people just messing around, the "fact" that you can't use a mic in-game on PS3 games and so much more.
I don't mind someone posting/spouting this stuff but I was surprised to be linked to this vid in order to "educate" me about gaming.

That is just an example of the new generation of gamer. They do not appreciate the ability to expand their favorite games and keep enjoying them for years and years to come. It is all about consuming whatever content $big_corporation_x is shoving out this month, only to move onto something new next month. These folks have taken over the gaming scene completely. Gaming is more like the movie industry now than ever before and that is very sad.
Don't be surprised when you can't play your favorite games from 2005 online anymore with a console. Also, developers are under less pressure to fix bugs in console games (if they EVER do). I remember the pedestrian glitch in GTA vice city for the first XBOX. I shelled out for those games on release, and do you think that game-breaking bug was ever fixed? Nope. How about that TDS bug where the AI would reset to default difficulty if you reloaded a save game. Was that ever fixed for the console users?

He lost me at " . . . if you can't afford [3 or 4 bucks a month], you shouldn't have recreational video games to begin with." :nono:
I almost lost hope when I realized that he doesn't know the difference between a megabyte and a gigabyte, but for some reason decided to keep going.

You know you've been working too much when, upon glancing at lost_soul's post you spot $big_corporation_x and get confused for a good minute thinking you're reading a PHP forum...

You know lost_soul's been posting too much when you start mistaking his entitlement-whore bullshit for PHP.

Actually I just listened to the audio and properly read the replies.
TTLG's typical HURF DURF HOW DEM BE SAYIN BAD THING BUT PC?? arrogant bullshit aside, the guy does have, for the most part, valid points. He never says PC isn't capable of looking better than xbox, he says that it doesn't. And its true, since most of PC games are ports nowadays, so they are locked down to the same graphics (with perhaps just a few cosmetic options like slightly higher resolution). Games that are specifically geared to take advantage of PCs greater power are more of an exception than the rule.
He is also right in that x360 is easier to code for than ps3. So much easier. And while aiming with kb+mouse is easier, moving with an analog controller is indeed more precise giving a slight advantage.
Yea there is a bit misinformation in his claims (better graphics coming down to monitor, wat?) and the argumentation for his points can be at times retarded. But the points themselves are, for the most part, valid, regardless of how much we hate the fact PCs are no longer the holy grail of gaming.
EDIT: Also, agree with dethtoll - everything lost_soul says has absolutely nothing to do with what the guy argues in the videos and is just generic "console tards" rant #428
lost_soul on 10/12/2010 at 23:45
and how is it "entitlement" to expect a bug-free game that functions properly? Another reason for gaming on the PC is frame rate. Some console games have pathetic frame rates, like Perfect Dark on the N64, Deus Ex IW on the XBOX, and Quake 4 on the 360. When you buy the console version, you're stuck with that. If the game only manages 14 FPS in that large elevator shaft with those environment-mapped windows, then that's just too bad.
On the PC, I can upgrade my system and get an enjoyable experience, not a slide show.
Then there's load times. I can stuff tuns of gigs of RAM into my gaming machine, or play games from an SSD/fast hard drive to decrease load times. Some of the console games I've played have had painful load times.

But it does look better, Yakoob.
Even if your 'monitor' is the exact same 720p HDTV you use for the 360, with modern mid range hardware on one of those console ports you'll get much better quality anti aliasing (if the console version has it at all) and you'll get a smoother frame rate. 60FPS&8XAA is objectively better then 30FPS&0XAA.
And this is before you start factoring in things like in game-configurations for graphics detail, additional available memory and it's effect on textures (the bad texture pop-in on Unreal Engine PC games versus the horrific pop-in on the consoles). Start taking into account outside the game .ini tweaks, and the difference gets larger. And you finally start factoring in the occasional availability of user made graphics improvement mods.....it ends up as a non-contest.
As for the 360 versus PS3 - you know, ever since I got the PS3 it's become my preferred console. Not because of exclusives, but because the controller weighs half as much so is more comfortable during long term plays.

But that's not a reason that any platform is better than any other, that's just a reason why one isn't better than another.

Maybe this is because I haven't played as much on consoles as I have on the PC, but I can't see how this is true. Whenever I play stuff like CoD or Halo on an Xbox I can never aim properly with the thumbsticks, but I've never had problems aiming with a mouse and keyboard that weren't related to framerate issues.
All that aside, a very valid point he does make is that there are really good FPS players who play on consoles. So...why is there arguing about this in the first place?

Not really. Eg "quick-scoping" (basically run and gunning with sniper rifles) is popular amongst a lot of console Call of Duty players, they claim it's more skillful, but it isn't. All they're doing is taking advantage of the game's built in auto-aim.
If you ADS in console CoD MP the aiming reticle snaps to the nearest player and tracks their movement for several seconds. In console CoD SP, when you ADS the reticle automatically snaps to the nearest enemy's head.
Contrast that with say quick-scoping in Counter-Strike and it's night and day. A player that can quick-scope well in a properly optimised PC FPS (particularly ones where guns have genuine recoil) like CS:S can genuinely be revered as someone with skill.
