I really can't see the point of that.
What's not to get? The biggest glaring fault of the vanilla 360 controller was (
http://www.destructoid.com/undeniable-failure-an-open-letter-to-microsoft-on-the-xbox-360-dpad-76299.phtml) the highly inaccurate and often unresponsive d-pad, thus rendering the controller rubbish for games where digital precision is required (i.e. Fighters and some side-scrolling Platformers).
Also hotkeys for equipping weapons are commonly mapped to the d-pad in many action titles. In the heat of battle it can be frustrating to not have your commands potentially not respond the first time you call them.
Microsoft tried to remedy the aforementioned flaw with this new controller and they appear to have succeeded in making the situation far less worse than it was.

OT: Regarding the whole x360 vs ps3 vs wii vs pc debates, honestly in this day and age, I feel like it's no longer about who provides better hardware and software, but rather, its a mere war of brand loyality and idealogy.
But you're wrong so that's okay

i'd like to say making inane insulting contrary statements and then not backing them up is your specialty but unfortunately that's everyone's specialty here

If you're asking for proof, you must've been suffering from ADD over the past bunch of years to not notice.
