I really don't see Yahtzee as a one-trick pony. I can see where people might get that impression, but he seems to give pretty earnest commentary on games; the kind that an actual, reasonable person would make, as opposed to your average critic or fan, and he *does* give credit where it's due (although his schtick is more about the negative -- something he admits). I normally don't like game reviews or series of videos of some guy whining about things, but he's definitely doing something right.

It's funny how people who don't like zeropunctuation comedy/reviews usually complain that it it isn't enough comedy or isn't enough review for their liking.
And I know it's a fairly lame comeback but people who say 'anyone can do it' really ought to try it, week in week out. You'd have to do it the same way he does it too, not spruce things up with how much cleverer you are with your warez video and audio software, get all the proper clearances for the elements you use etc. This kind of thing is a soufflé, the elements are fairly plain and unremarkable but damned if you can make it rise. (and no, this doesn't mean you have to like him)

dethtoll has a hearing impairment of some kind that affects his ability to understand Zero Punctuation reviews because Yahtzee speaks very quickly.
dethtoll would also like to own a gun (deathpipe), at least in part for protection.
I am suggesting that since guns tend to make loud noises when fired, and that owning one for protection would likely necessitate practice shooting to a. maintain one's skill with said firearm and b. to ensure it is functioning, dethtoll has perhaps not made the wisest of choices in wishing for a firearm.
In case you were not aware; loud noise is linked to hearing loss. This does, indeed, need to be a sustained exposure but given the importance of hearing it might not be prudent to expose oneself at all.
Ok?
It doesn't. You're the first one to brainfart the word "necessarily". If you bothered to read my post (and if you are, contrary to demonstrations so far, able to understand it) I said that a person with a pre-existing hearing impairment "is probably not best served" by having a gun that goes BANG around. Of course ear protection will ameliorate the situation. Tools and stereos? Well, I never mentioned it but now that you mention it, yes, sustained exposure to loud sounds from these or any other device may affect hearing. I haven't suggested that the use or ownership of these devices should necessarily affect hearing though, in fact I'm quite sure I never said anyone would "automatically" have anything. I shall though, just for you because you will, of course, continue to provide us with that same old automated dross.
Wow, what a load of gibberish. In the future, when you screw up an argument, just admit it. Don't spin your wheels trying to back out and end up refuting yourself in the same post.

This thread is full of fail.
Subjective Effect, do you really have to bring up the gun nonsense in every argument you make?

I was really quite surprised that Yahtzee failed to comment on the quick-time events in this game given his previous rantings about such things.
Hell, the finale of the end-boss fight is just a quick-time event.
For my opinion, I tend to agree with Yahtzee's denigration of the supernatural cult part of the game, but I felt this way about the first game too.
For me, the series would be a LOT stronger without this stuff, and a more real-world approach would suit this series a helluva lot better.
Maybe an exploration of an alcoholic's descent into mental illness and violence rather than the generic "Anti-hero saves the world from scarey evil super-beings" schtick it has currently got going on.
However, if you ignore all this silliness (and it's pretty easy to do that right up until the last level), this is a great game. The same visceral bum-fighting is still present and has actually been improved upon, and there are some genuinely heart-pumping moments of brilliance in the game, such as the rabid grizzly bear chase.
So, ignore the story and enjoy the action is my summary of Condemned 2.

You just demonstrate again and again that you are too dense to get it. That last post was me going slow so you tards can understand.
I'll be amazed if you even know what my "argument" is, nevermind how I've "screwed it up". Where the hell have I tried to "back out"? Do you even know what that means? Is English not your first language? Are you 12? Because, you know, you can be forgiven if either is true. If not...

What? From your POV the "nonsense" of which you speak must be my stance on gun control of which I have both NOT mentioned and of which I have explicitly stated I willl not itt.
I just suggested to dethtoll, who has a hearing impairment AND a desire to own what is
probably the loudest noise making object one is likely to own, that he should perhaps think about those two things.
And I'm having to explain this AGAIN? I apologise if seem smug or condescending guys but every other post of mine is having to contain further explanation of something else I've made explicit in one
or more posts.
It's like explaining how 2+2=4 by having to explain that both 1+3 and 3+1 and 5-1 all = 4 so you'll excuse me if I presume that at least 3 of you here are utter tards.

And here I was thinking talking about Yahtzee and the game would maybe bring the thread back on track.
Woe is me :(

Or it could just be that 'Yahtzee' is a one trick pony who's novelty wore off after the first couple 'reviews'.
If you are into that kind of thing then so be it, but you can't fault others for having grown tired of his schtick.
Honestly, yahtzee could quit and some long time listener could take his ball and run with it, it's that formulaic.
Not to mention the fact that his schtick is basically to cram a hundred mediocre jokes into two minutes and let the one or two good ones carry the whole thing.
I find Yahtzee almost unlistenable. His humour is so forced; there's very little sense of comedic timing or wit. Good comedians don't presume to be funny, they just have an instinct for comedy and it flows naturally. Watching Yahtzee is like watching Robot Chicken -- it's not really clever or insightful, just very, very quick (LOOK AT THIS IT'S FUCKING HILARIOUS WHY AREN'T YOU LAUGHING OKAY HERE'S ANOTHER). And as we've all seen from Yahtzee's actual articles, he is not an especially astute or clever writer.
It is absolutely a gimmick, and as soon as people tire of it, there'll be nothing remaining to support ZeroPunctuation.

This is a first for me but his description of Condemned in the Condemned 2 review makes me want to get it. I can see how the whole supernatural element might wreck it for someone - if things seem grounded in reality it's best to keep them there. If they're not (e.g. Lost) then there'd better be some really GOOD freakiness behind it all.
I can almost ignore a story if the gameplay is good enough though. Unless the game is built on the story.
He mentions the ease of the final boss but wasn't explicit about the mechanics. Given that he puts loads of spoilers in his reviews I thought he might be trying not to spoil that bit.

Now I'm not a gushing fan but this is just untrue. Give us 3 examples of where he tries to be funny and fails because of timing and/or wit failure.

As has been pointed out to you in the past, that's what ear protection is for, genius. In the case of having to use it for home defense, I hardly think having to use it once or twice will ruin my hearing when I once played Zombie Sneak Attack loud enough to make a chandelier fall off the ceiling with no ill effects with regards to my health. (Serves them right for not fucking bolting the thing to the ceiling properly.)
Secondly, what the fuck does my disability (I did not lose my hearing at a later age, rather I was born into this) have to do with my desire to own a weapon for home defense/my support of responsible gun rights? I suggest you stop trying to act like you're some kind of authority, moral or otherwise, on
anything because you're
not. You're just some asshole who needs to stay in CommChat.
